About theteam:

The Gold team is a small andtightlyknit group who are responsible for processing gold andhighvalue jewellery for auction and trade sale. Because we workwith a small team and handle valuable stock we collaborate closelywith each other passing tasks between team members to achieve ourdepartmental goals. Our team members have a great depth ofknowledge in antique and vintage jewellery and we are allpassionate about the subject. The department is full of dailydiscoveries and learning opportunities because antique jewelleryoften comes with fascinating stories totell.

About the role:

The main responsibility of thisrole involves sorting large volumes of precious metals in ameticulous manner and breaking down various types of gold. Thisincludes distinguishing between different gold carats solid goldand nonsolid gold. The latter category includes items withgemstones cameos or nongold components that require carefulremoval. To work efficiently its important to quickly identify thebest way to break into a piece of jewellery. Skilful removal ofprecious stones without damage requires good dexterity and an eyefor understanding shapes.

The role also involvesquality checking testing gold carats as well as assisting in recordkeeping and administrative tasks. Additionally the specialist willwork closely with the Head of departmentto ensure accurate weighingand categorization of scrap gold carats.

Theultimate goal is to maximise the processing of solid gold andensure accurate and secure delivery of scrap gold toclients.

Key goals andobjectives:

  • Becomeconfident in reading the XRF gun and identifying metalpurity.

  • Learning theprocedures security processes and quality checking required toprepare gold for sale.

  • Gainan understanding of gemstones necessary for their removal andsorting.

  • Improve in speedand accuracy of breaking down not solid gold items.

In yourfirst three months youwill:

  • Becomefamiliar with the department and the procedure for processingstock.

  • Learn to use an XRFGun for testing metal purity.

  • Develop the skillsnecessary to quickly and carefully remove precious stones fromjewellery.

  • Begin developingknowledge for identifying metal purity and carats.

In yourfirst six months youwill:

  • Becomeadept at identifying gold and metal purity both by eye and with theXRF Gun.

  • Be able toconfidently quality check bags of solid gold forsale.

  • Have a strongunderstanding of product flow through the gold department to bestoptimise working cohesion with other staff.

  • Helping to update dailyweekly and monthly record keeping.

In yourfirst year youwill:

  • Take anactive part in all departmental meetings and planning sessionsproviding feedback and suggestions whereappropriate.

  • Ensureknowledge of all department key performanceindicators.

  • Workingindependently to manage workload and prioritise tasks based onimportance.

  • Preparing stockfor delivery with all appropriatedocumentation.

Keyresponsibilities:

  • Assistin daily weight of scrap gold forstocktake.

  • The sorting andbreaking down of jewellery into solid gold scrap with carefulremoval of gemstone and metalparts.

  • Quality checking ofall solid gold in preparation for security bagging.

  • Weighing and bagging of allsolid gold for sale.

  • Recording and tracking ofweights andnumbers.

  • Preparation ofconsignment delivery notes for client collection.

Essentialskills andexperience:

  • Knowledgeof gold able to distinguish between different gold carats solidgold and nonsolidgold.

  • Strong Ability forpuzzlesolving.

  • They must beadept at taking and retaininginstructions.

  • Numeracycompetency and being comfortable working with figures.

  • Ability to collaborate withother team members to achieve goals and targets.

Desirableskills and nice tohaves:

  • Aknowledge of precious metals vintage antique gold and/or jewellerywould be hugelybeneficial.

  • Experience usingExcel to track and record daily figures.

  • Good attention todetail.

  • Previous experiencewith security procedures of highvaluestock.

  • Ability to workindependently and prioritise workload.
