London, United Kingdom Open Full time

Open is an Australian-founded insurtech company on a mission to deliver the best insurance experiences for the world, and we’ve expanded into the UK.

We’re looking for a superstar generalist to join our Insurance Operations Team, working directly with our Chief Commercial & Insurance Officer UK across a wide range of projects.

You’ll join our UK team, developing and driving initiatives to help us deliver the best experiences for our customers as we look to this next chapter of Open’s (and your) growth.

About Open

We’re on a mission to deliver the best insurance experiences for the world. We started with Australia where we’re supporting over 100k customers and now we’re growing rapidly in the UK where we have 30k customers today.

Open powers the embedded insurance programs for brands like Starling Bank, Bupa and Telstra (Australia’s largest telco) and their customers. In Australia, we offer car, home, travel and landlords insurance. In the UK, we offer personal property insurance for things like mobile phones, contents and other valuables, with other products coming soon.

We’re backed by leading investors, including AirTree Ventures, Movac, LocalGlobe UK and Hollard Insurance, and we’ve won awards from FinTech Australia, the Global InsurTech 100, Mozo.com.au, Pause Fest, SmartCompany’s Smart50 (5th) and the AFR Fast 100.

Come and join our global team of 150+ and help us to deliver the best insurance experiences for the world.

What You’ll Do

As our Business Operations Associate/Manager for the UK, you’ll be an important part of our founding UK team, reporting directly to our Chief Commercial and Insurance Officer UK as part of the Insurance Operations team.

Our Insurance Operations team is responsible for delivering insurance products that underpin our mission and propel growth, and driving our claims and customer support experiences.

You get the best bits of being part of a smaller start up team in the UK, and a global scaling insurtech with a team over 150 people, proven capabilities and demonstrable growth.

You’ll be involved in a wide range of projects, which will change and evolve over time,  but at the moment this role would be focused on:

  • supporting the development and delivery of new insurance products and propositions for the UK, including things like:
    • working with teams across the business to ideate and develop new propositions and products;
    • helping with the development of policy wordings, documents and customer communications that underpin new products; and
    • working with our Digital Product Team, Customer Support Team and Claims Partner to bring the new insurance products and propositions into life and helping to ensure we’re continuously improving in line with our goals; and
  • helping to develop and deliver a number of projects to prepare our UK insurance operations for scale, including how we work with our underwriting and claims partners.

We firmly believe your career is what you make it. There’s no shortage of things to do at Open, and in this role you’ll have exposure to all parts of our  business in the UK. You’ll also get a chance to learn from, and share your own learnings and experience with, the broader global team.

This means it’s a great foundation that could see you continuing to challenge yourself across new and exciting projects across the broad Commercial & Insurance team, or develop and grow as a leader in a particular function.

Requirements

  • Trusted Pair of Hands: You’re a trusted pair of hands, with a good attention to detail, strong organisational skill and the ability to use good judgement and critical thinking to navigate new challenges.
  • Communication Effectiveness: You have the ability to communicate with customers, partners and internal stakeholders clearly and effectively, whether in writing, on the phone or in person.
  • Insurance, financial services or legal background: While not mandatory, we think that some exposure to insurance or financial services would be beneficial for this role, or a legal degree or training and a willingness to learn
  • Curiosity and drive: excitement to learn new things and challenge yourself when faced with complex problems, whether based on customer experience, regulation, legal documents, technology systems or business processes.

Benefits

It’s an exciting time to join our team and be part of a tech company that is solving some of the most exciting problems in insurance. We provide our team with:

  • Highly competitive compensation, including share options - we believe in paying people what they’re worth and having everyone in our company share in our success
  • High levels of autonomy and trust so you can do your best work
  • Growth opportunities internally - as you grow, your role can too
  • Flexible working - In our UK team, we’re in the office 3 days a week to get the most out of collaborating together, but we are about impact, not time at your desk.
  • Annual allowance for professional development - use it towards a gym membership, professional coaching, a conference. Whatever matters most to you

At Open, we’re open and this means that we celebrate diversity and are committed to providing an inclusive environment for all employees.

Lastly, Open is a high-performing team that strives to achieve brilliant things every day and we encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn’t exactly match the job description. We’re looking for people who are intellectually curious, courageous, innovative and passionate. Our culture is truly open, we’re continuously challenging each other to live our values, and aren’t afraid to raise questions when we fall short. Most importantly, Open is for those that want to create change and have an impact. If that sounds like you, apply for this role and let’s build the future of insurance together.
