This role is based at our National Construction College- East, located at Bricham Newton, Norfolk. This role is not suitable for home working.

Role purpose:

To provide face to face support and supervision to our learners in all matters of day-to-day life beyond the classroom, in a safe and secure environment. Working towards success, with first line concern for their mental, physical, social and emotional well-being of learners.

To work closely with Health & Safety and Safeguarding Leads to assist in keeping children safe.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

Support learners by facilitating opportunities for them to engage in a wide range of personal development activities such as learning from external speakers, carrying out activities in the local community and recreational activity. Create and maintain an inclusive, vibrant, and social environment during break times and outside of training hours. Track and monitor learner personal development activities and gather formal feedback from the learners on their effectiveness. Gather feedback from learners and conduct learner voice activities regarding their experiences at NCC. Provide learners with impartial careers information advice and guidance relating to career progression opportunities using the resources and information available via the Careers Specialist. Provide physical and mental wellbeing support to learners and provide curriculum delivery teams with information regarding their individual needs. Take appropriate action to investigate and resolve incidents that involve learners that may arise, following all CITB policies and procedures. Act in “Loco Parentis” as appropriate for those learners who are under 18 years of age and/or vulnerable adults, managing and reporting all levels of Safeguarding concerns and signposting learners to relevant support. Regularly liaise and communicate with curriculum managers, lecturers, and instructors to discuss learner progress. Act as a role model in terms of fairness, inclusion and respect. Work closely with CITB colleagues and the Welfare Manager to gather highly sensitive information with regards to learners’ health and wellbeing and record all information appropriately using correct CITB systems. Deal with highly sensitive and confidential situations, following CITB Safeguarding procedures, which at times may involve external agencies. Maintain accurate records using the appropriate systems. Ensure a high standard of learner behaviour and carry out low level disciplinary action in accordance with the disciplinary policy. Provide learner support in line with the Alcohol, Drug and Weapons Misuse Policy, and act as a ‘companion’ during any searches carried out by Police. Attend and contribute positively to team meetings where required. Consistently demonstrate the required behaviours, whilst being a role model for learners and challenge inappropriate behaviour in a professional manner. Follow all safeguarding policies and procedures and be responsible for fostering a positive, inclusive and safe environment where all learners feel safe, included and supported. Ensure that all learners work and behave safely and always follow all health and safety rules and regulations. Establish and maintain strong relationships with relevant industry professionals, employers and other stakeholders, to organise learning and development opportunities for learners. Attend relevant workshops, conferences, and training sessions to keep up to date with changes. Comply with CITB policies and procedures. Drive the minibus to take learners on excursions and to and from the train station or airport. Work unsociable hours including evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays where required. Travel to all CITB colleges is required with this role and will be fully compensated by CITB within policy. Flexibility is required with this role to ensure key elements of safeguarding for CITB learners is covered at all times. Carry out Random Drug and Alcohol testing for all apprentices across NCC Colleges and on suspicion as required. Maintain an excellent understanding of current Drug and Alcohol misuse including delivery of awareness sessions.
