Job summary

Are you an experienced neonatal practitioner who has a passion for quality improvement, patient safety and risk management?

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Women and Children's Division for a neonatal practitioner to join the Divisional Continuous Learning and Improvement Team on a permanent basis. This role will be part of a small team whose responsibility it is to review all risks and incidents, undertake investigations and follow through on action plans in order to support quality improvement within perinatal services.

Southmead Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has 34 cots, comprising of 8 ITU, 8 HDU, 18 SC and an additional 10 cots on Transitional Care. We are a well established Level 3 unit and tertiary referral centre, providing a centre of excellence for babies born as premature as 22 weeks gestation.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide expert advice in relation to the management, reporting, investigation and follow up of adverse clinical incidents within the Neonatal setting. They will work in collaboration with the multi disciplinary team to develop robust, meaningful recommendations and identify actions for learning from incidents.

Education/Training/Qualifications

Essential

Educated to degree level or equivalent in a health-related subject Current NMC Registration

Work Experience

Experience at band 6 in neonatal clinical practice Knowledge of perinatal issues in the wider context of the NHS Experience of working with patients and families to drive service improvement Experience of working with clinical teams to support improvement in patient safety Experience of working to deadlines in a high-pressure environment

Knowledge/Skills and abilities

Knowledge of perinatal issues in the wider context of the NHS Knowledge of research, Quality Improvement (QI) methodology and audit Knowledge of incident reporting management system Ability to understand the facts through gathering of evidence and building evidence-based narrative Ability to draw conclusions and make findings Excellent presentation skills
