Newport, United Kingdom Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Registered Mental Health Band 5 Nurses to join the team on our 16 bedded mixed sex adult acute ward.

We are looking for an innovative, motivated and enthusiastic Registered Mental Health Nurse who has the passion, commitment and therapeutic skills to deliver compassionate, high-quality care to individuals who are experiencing a crisis in their mental and emotional health and wellbeing. Our client group is diverse and therefore gives the opportunity for you to expand your experience in delivering care to differing mental health needs.

This role is an integral part of a multidisciplinary team of health care professionals to ensure that the clinical, environmental and social needs of our service users are met. We put huge emphasis on working collaboratively with individuals to empower them to move through the care pathway toward recovery.

Staff on Osborne are respectful, flexible, hard-working, welcoming and part of a collaborative team and we would expect successful applicants to support this philosophy.

Main duties of the job

The post holder, in collaboration with the Team, will be responsible for the delivery of the highest professional standard of care, assessment, treatment and support of people within the Service.

This post is designed to be flexible within Osborne Ward.

The post holder would be expected to work across all of Mental Health Services should the need arise. Support and supervision for all staff is a fundamental part of the culture of the ward and individuals are actively encouraged to seek out learning opportunities.

Demonstrate a high level of clinical expertise and leadership in respect of all colleagues. To plan, implement and provide meaningful activity for patients within in-patient services and to provide patients with assessments, care plans and treatment plans as appropriate, and ensure that these are put into practice and evaluated.

Contribute to new service developments and actively take these forward as required. To be flexible and work with colleagues to promote the best outcomes for patients and the ability to make decisions and show sound, effective communication skills will be required.

You will be expected to work a mixture of early, late and night shifts.

Please note that in addition to the above we are in a position to consider applications from RNLD's and RGN's with the appropriate previous experience.

About us

Southern Health is one of the largest NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK, specialising in mental health and learning disabilities, as well as offering physical health community-based services.

With a workforce of more than 7000 and a footprint that spans more than 200 sites across Hampshire, we're wholeheartedly committed to providing the best possible healthcare, reaching a range of diverse communities, whilst placing patients and staff at the forefront of all our endeavours.

We are currently working closely with other NHS Trusts to integrate all our collective community, mental health, and learning disability services. Our new organisation, to be known as Hampshire and Isle of Wight NHS Foundation Trust, is set to launch in July 2024.

The transformation will happen in staggered stages; Hampshire CAMHS, part of Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust joined Southern Health in February 2024, with Isle of Wight NHS Trust mental health and community services transitioning in early May 2024. The final combination of Southern Health and Solent Trusts is anticipated to occur in July 2024, when the new organisation will be formed.

Our new Trust will continue to cater to the unique needs of different communities, making healthcare across the county more accessible, as well as offering staff more opportunities for career development, training and partnership working.

Join us as we embark on this exciting journey to shape the future of healthcare in Hampshire.
