Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in limb lengthening and deformity correction.

We are inviting applications for a substantive consultant orthopaedic surgeon with sub specialist experience in limb lengthening and deformity correction with further experience in Osteogenesis perfecta and vascular cases. Either full-time or part-time is considered for this role. The job plan in the job description is an indicative and will be subject to some adaptation in discussion with the successful candidate.

Currently this role is based at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust however the Trust is seeking to build on and strengthen existing links with other paediatric and adult orthopaedic centres, including the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH), Stanmore. The successful candidate should therefore be prepared to work cross site, which may be a requirement in the future.

The Department has strong existing links with other adult and paediatric orthopaedics centres, including the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH), Stanmore. The Department is seeking to build on a strengthen these links and there may, in future, be great cross site working and collaboration. The successful candidate should be prepared to work cross site.

Main duties of the job

This post is for a consultant paediatric orthopaedic surgeon with a sub specialist interest in

complex limb lengthening and limb deformity correction.

It is a full-time appointment at Great Ormond Street Hospital. The successful candidate will take over the vacant existing practice structure (including a team of multi-disciplinary professionals) and patients as part of this position. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to provide orthopaedic care for patients with osteogenesis imperfecta and vascular abnormalities, and to develop their clinical areas of interests in agreement with the lead clinician and consultant body.

Besides a profound theoretical and clinical experience with all standard and modern techniques of limb deformity correction, and bone lengthening in particular, this role requires an excellent understanding of general paediatric orthopaedics and traumatology.

The successful candidate will demonstrate competency in paediatric orthopaedic surgery, with completed fellowship training in paediatric orthopaedics and sub specialist training in limb lengthening and deformity correction of upper and lower limbs. Previous consultant level operating experience in this area would be desirable for this post, in particular familiarity and experience with external and internal lengthening devices.
