Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated Clinical Technologist/NM Radiographer to join the Nuclear Medicine department at SWBH NHS Trust. The Clinical Lead Technologist will be expected to play a leading role in the development and upkeep of clinical protocols. As a result, we expect that the post will suit an enthusiastic individual who is keen to continually update their knowledge and uphold the high standards of the department.

The post-holder is expected to be suitably educated with experience of working in Nuclear Medicine; we are happy to accept applications from radiographers who possess relevant experience.

For the right candidate, we may consider recruiting at a lower band whilst gaining additional experience.

Main duties of the job

To undertake a variety of nuclear medicine diagnostic tests, which includes imaging and non-imaging procedures. This will include the dispensing/administration of radiopharmaceuticals, image acquisition and processing along with the appropriate documentation of all aspects of the job.

In the absence of other senior team members, the post holder may be required to provide supervision for day-to-day management of the service. They will be expected to supervise and train junior staff, including apprentices.

As part of the MPS service, the department performs pharmacological stress testing using adenosine, regadenoson and dobutamine, with a mixture of clinician and technologist led sessions. The successful candidate would be expected to perform adenosine/regadenoson stressing however full training would be provided should this fall outside their current scope of practice.

The post holder may be required to work at the Krypton Lab at the University of Birmingham as a Krypton operator. This means that they will be producing Krypton generators which are supplied to several NHS Trusts around the country for use in VQ scans - full training would be provided.

Staff are encouraged to expand their knowledge and skills and would be supported to attend training and meetings to facilitate professional development.

About us

The Nuclear Medicine department at City Hospital is staffed by a friendly team of technologists, clinical scientists, clinicians and support staff. The department performs a variety of nuclear medicine procedures including both imaging and non-imaging procedures, as well as therapy treatments for thyrotoxicosis and synovitis. Staff are encouraged to partake in research and present work at national conferences if department is proactive in training, developing, and supporting staff to reach their potential.

We currently have 3 GE gamma cameras (2 with CT) and are looking forward to the move to MMUH later this year. Our brand new acute hospital will have 3 Siemens gamma cameras featuring 32 slice CT affording us more consistency, flexibility and the opportunity for protocol expansion.
