Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Cardiac, Vascular and Thoracic Surgery Directorate. We are looking for a highly motivated Clinical Vascular Scientist, whose primary role will be to perform, interpret and report complex detailed diagnostic vascular ultrasound exams to the highest post-holder will participate in training and supervising junior members of staff and students. As well as play a key role in the day to day running of the department, reviewing and vetting scan requests to determine appropriateness and clinical urgency to prioritising workload as needed. In addition the post-holder will also participate in clinical audits and research activities within the department. The overall aim is to advance vascular science and continue to increase the overallstature/reputation of the vascular laboratory.

Main duties of the job

To perform, interpret and report a wide range of vascular ultrasound scans and other tests forvascular conditions, working autonomously, and provide clinical supervision to the other juniorvascular scientists as required. Assist in the day to day running of the department. Review and vet scan requests anddetermine appropriateness and clinical urgency. To take part in clinical research and audit activities within the Vascular Laboratory with theaim to advance vascular science and continue to increase the overall stature/reputation of StGeorge's Hospital Vascular Laboratory. Participate in teaching/supervising junior members of staff and visiting students. In addition,guiding/mentoring STP trainees and trainee vascular scientists through the process ofachieving SVT accreditation. Participate in the implementation of new, improved and optimised methods, techniques andservice improvements utilising the best available evidence based medicine, nationalguidelines and results from research and development.

Requirements

You should have one of the following qualifications: fully accredited vascular scientist (AVS) with the Society for Vascular Technology GB & Ireland (SVT), STP graduate or an equivalent body if trained abroad. You must also have a relevant post-graduation qualification such as a PGCert, PGDip, MSc or equivalent.

Science Degree (BSc level or higher) Relevant post graduate qualification (PGCert, PGDip, or MSc (or equivalent)) AVS (Full Accreditation with Society of Vascular Technology for Great Britain and Ireland) or HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist (requires 3 years post-graduate study), foreign qualifications of equivalent education/training or graduate of Scientist Training Program
