This role is home and hub based linked to our Manchester Hub. We are therefore open to candidates based in and around Greater Manchester.

Job Description

What will the role involve?

You will work as part of our dynamic team to produce compelling and engaging content. You will find your own stories, make contacts and build relationships within the community we serve. You will provide live coverage of breaking news, securing exclusive scoops and live blogging directly to our readers. 

You will source and conduct interviews, take pictures and film footage whilst you are out on patch reporting. This position will involve some weekend and evening working on a shift based rota so a flexible approach is required.

Qualifications

Who are we looking for?

You are a passionate and experienced journalist with an NCTJ or equivalent journalism qualification (or relevant time served) and in depth knowledge of media law. You have a keen eye for what makes great content and a proven track record of writing and publishing digital news content in a fast paced newsroom environment. You have an in-depth understanding of the Manchester Evening News’ audience and how to make content engaging. 

You have superb social media skills and an understanding of how to utilise various social platforms to engage audiences, source ideas and share content. You have a good understanding of SEO and know how to create accurate copy at pace. You have great communications skills and the ability to build a strong network of contacts.
