Main duties of the job

You will play a vital role in the coordination and delivery of chemotherapy and other specialised drugs to our patients. On a typical day, you will visit the Haem ward, attend multidisciplinary team meetings and ward rounds, and collaborate with the haematology day unit and pharmacy services. Additionally, you will run Pharmacist Clinics as a prescriber and engage in audits, projects, quality improvement initiatives, and financial reporting.

As a catalyst for change, you will use your expertise to ensure patient safety, comfort, and treatment success.

Provide pharmaceutical insights related to haemato-oncology treatments Manage the Trust's e-prescribing system Monitor guideline adherence and drug expenditure Establish service level agreements Lead haemato-oncology Peer Review Oversee immunoglobulin use Record data on the National Immunoglobulin Database

You will play a crucial role in the development and training of our pharmacy staff, including providing chemotherapy training, training pre-registration and junior pharmacists, and contributing to medical and nursing staff e-prescribing training. You will also line manage rotational pharmacists, conduct regular appraisals, and supervise Band 7 Rotational Pharmacists.

Ideal candidates will have a background in Clinical Pharmacy within Cancer Services or Haemato-oncology. Additionally, candidates should hold a clinical diploma (or equivalent) and demonstrate exceptional communication skills.

Working arrangements

Primarily, the role entails working from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend shifts, typically on a rotational basis of 1 in 5 weekends.

Qualifications

Essential

Degree Master of Pharmacy Post Graduate Clinical Diploma Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council Independent prescriber qualification (or willing to undertake)

Experience & Skills

Essential

Comprehensive post-registration training and experience in hospital pharmacy - this must include a solid grounding in all aspects of acute hospital pharmacy practice (medicines information, ward services and dispensing) Significant previous cancer / haemato-oncology experience as a clinical pharmacist on wards/Day Units Chemotherapy experience High degree of computer literacy to be able to input clinical detail into the Trust's e-prescribing system for chemotherapy.

Use of hospital electronic prescribing and administration systems, eg Cerner Risk Management
