Job summary

Anopportunity has arisen for a senior practitioner to join the Moving Mindsets Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) in Morecambe Bay. We wish to appoint someone who wants to make a difference to theemotional wellbeing of children and young people in schools. We're seeking a mental health professional who has direct experience of working with evidence-based therapies in child mental health. The role involves providing therapeutic support to children, young people and their parent-carers and working in partnership with education settings.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be employed on a full-time basis to delivermental health support across a range of educational settings in North Lancashire and South Cumbria . The position will be line managed within one team and this will be the team closest to the person's home address. The person in this role will work in schools across both localities, again in settings closest to their home address.

Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) are a national programme jointly delivered with the Department for Education, NHS England, NHS workforce, training and education, and NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board (NHS ICB). The programme has three main commitments:

Delivering evidence-based interventions for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health needs Supporting the senior mental health lead in each education setting to introduce or develop their whole school/college approach Giving timely advice to school and college staff, and liaising with external specialist services, to help children and young people to get the right support and stay in education

Job responsibilities

To work with children, young people and their families, on a one to one or group basis, using a variety of interventions, to identify needs and to achieve positive outcomes. The jobholder is likely to be dealing with the most complex of cases/situations.

To work in partnership with parents/carers to empower them and to enable them to achieve better outcomes for their children.

To work co-operatively with other professionals in childrens services, health agencies and other community based services, to provide the most effective service for children young people and families.

To apply safeguarding and child protection procedures and to report as necessary.

Qualifications

Essential

Qualification mandatory for practice, w here applicable. (NB: For staff having sole and direct access to children, young people and vulnerable adults, there is likely to be a future requirement for an NVQ3 level qualification.) Awareness of factors impacting on and issues facing vulnerable children and young people and families ( disadvantage, poverty, disability). Knowledge of child/young people development. Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection and promoting the welfare of children. Knowledge of legislation relevant to service aims. A relevant qualification, at NVQ level 4/5, may meet the above knowledge requirements-see programme content for details
