The Clinical Services Manager for Womens Health will be instrumental in modernizing the operational delivery of assigned service areas, aligning with the Trust's strategic direction.

The successful post holder will work directly with the Director of Midwifery and Gynaecology and divisional triumvirate. Collaborating with clinical teams, they will integrate clinical standards into transformational initiatives and achieve the necessary efficiencyin ensuring a safe high quality service and outstanding patient experience.

Main duties of the job

The successful post holder will provide strong professional and clinical leadership to services/departments within the Gynaecology setting. They will work closely with Operational Managers, other clinical leads and the Clinical Director for the division. Together they will proactively seek out operational problems and propose innovative, cost effective and efficient solutions to improve the delivery of care and the patient care experience within the Gynaecology setting.

The post holder will be responsible for all clinical aspects of Gynaecology for Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust, both at Darent Valley Hospital and at Queen Mary's Hospital sites. This will include the delivery of a high quality service and day-to-day clinical elements of the Gynaecology inpatient and outpatient services.

Working closely with the Clinical Director and Service Manager for Gynaecology, the Clinical Service Manager will be instrumental in ensuring the service is developed in line with national guidelines, including the national Women's Health Strategy, GIRFT standards and transformation requirements for Gynaecology as set out in the Further Faster Programme Guidebook.

Job responsibilities

Co-ordinate the management of patient pathways within and across new and existing services to ensure safe patient management and flow of services. Provide guidance, support and leadership to all nursing staff and facilitate the development of nursing practice, to ensure excellent nursing and patient care. Initiate, lead and deliver complex clinical and strategic projects to improve patient pathways, service delivery and patient experience in the agreed clinical areas across the division. Develop and implement lasting solutions in response to PSIIs in conjunction with clinical, managerial and governance leads. Lead on clinical development, in line with the Trusts strategic priority of Continuous Quality Improvement. Work closely with service managers to produce accurate, high quality business cases for service developments, taking into account activity, service line reporting and income projections. Ensure the co-ordination of safe and equitable staffing levels Lead in the monitoring of clinical standards, including observations of care and patient feedback on an annual basis and more frequently when areas of concern are identified. Lead, facilitate and contribute to the development of best practices of Gynaecology across all Trust sites. Lead on recruitment and retention of nursing and support staff within the Directorate. Responsible for the development and update of databases within delegated clinical areas, including data inputting. Carry out data analysis includinga. Clinical quality: for example surgical safety checklist, NCEPOD,b. Patient satisfaction,c. Patient access: enabling services to deliver 2-week wait target, 18 week RTT for admitted and non-admitted patients and internal waiting list targets. Responsible for the delivery of patient access, activity and financial targets within areas of responsibility cross-site, auditing and undertaking corrective action as required Delegated budget holder for Early Pregnancy unit, Gynaecology Outpatients Clinic andGynaecology Directorate Admin Review and develop programmes of care, which involve the assessment of patient care needs. Responsible for the organisation/operation of delegated cross site gynaecological services. Act as the champion for Womens Health at a trust level alongside senior Midwives in Maternity services and senior Nurses in Gynaecology. Responsible for working with the department staff and lead clinicians in assessing the clinical skills required to deliver a safe and high quality service, identifying any deficits in this and developing programmes to address these issues. Ensure that clinical initiatives and service developments become embedded in clinical practice and that staff have a clear understanding and opportunity to contribute to the change process. Identify and coordinate opportunities for patient and public involvement and engagement in service development, leading where appropriate. Act as an interface between the Director of Midwifery and Gynaecology and area of responsibility, ensuring appropriate escalation/update occurs regarding key clinical and managerial issues effecting service area. Lead on the review, development and implementation of appropriate quality systems, clinical pathways, guidelines and service protocols. Responsible for demonstrating continuous improvements in standards of clinical nursing care within areas of accountability. Participate in service improvement projects or development programmes that contribute to the modernisation of patient services. Work in close partnership with appropriate Clinical Leads and Service Managers to ensure all local, corporate and national initiatives and targets are met. Be proactive in identifying areas for improvement and implement remedial action as necessary. Work in close association with other matrons ensuring joint working, excellent communication and that adequate provision is made for cross cover during periods of leave. Ensure that there are strategies in place in the department to ensure the protection of vulnerable adults and children. Lead on new educational programmes to assist in the further development of the cross-site DVH / QMH nursing team to meet the specialist gynaecology needs of the local population. To monitor the appraisal process at unit level, and ensure that systems are in place to further personal development of all staff, using in house and commissioned education opportunities effectively. Accountable for ensuring that the objectives in relation to nursing care are monitored and maintained to meet the requirements of the Care Quality Commission and other regulatory bodies.
