Job summary

We are looking to appoint a post-CCT Clinical Fellow in Adult Limb Reconstruction Orthopaedic Surgery. Based between The Royal London Hospital and Barts Health Orthopaedic Centre (BHOC), Starting in October 2025 , this fellowship provides an excellent higher training opportunity in all aspects of adult Limb Reconstruction, bone infection, major orthopaedic trauma and orthoplastics in a tertiary referral centre for trauma and elective surgery. This will include experience with management of internal and external fixation, circular frames, lengthening nails and management of bone infection and bone loss.

This post is suitable for a candidate who has passed the FRCS (Tr & Orth) or equivalent, and is looking for subspecialty experience in complex elective limb reconstruction, bone infection and trauma. Applicants must have full GMC registration with a licence to practice prior to the start of employment

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will experience the full range of limb reconstruction surgery in adult elective and trauma settings. The placement provides excellent opportunities for clinical and professional development. Throughout the duration of the fellowship there will be regular meetings between the London Limb Reconstruction units and the appointees will be expected to engage in the planning and delivery of services as well in research and service improvement projects.

The Trauma and Orthopaedic service across Barts Health NHS Trust forms one of the services within the Surgery and Cancer Clinical Academic Group (CAG). The administrative base is at the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel. The successful applicant will specifically support the services at BHOC and The Royal London.

Essential

Basic medical qualifications. MBBS or equivalent Higher surgical qualifications. FRCS/MRCS IELTS if you require sponsorship via the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh FRCS (Orth) or equivalent Appropriate GMC to be obtained by the designated start date

Skills/Abilities

Essential

Competence in all aspects of general orthopaedic management. Computer Literacy/ IT Skills Involvement in an Audit Project Ability to teach nursing and medical staff Medical management - able to supervise junior medical staff Able to establish and maintain working relations with patients, carers and multidisciplinary colleagues Ability to work under pressure Ability to prioritise clinical needs Ability to manage their time and workload

Desirable

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Competency in major orthopaedic trauma including periarticular fractures Experience in circular frames

Post FRCS Orth (or equivalent) - with at least 6 months previous Limb reconstruction Experience of teaching/presenting Understanding of principles of clinical governance
