and beyond. Our Ophthalmology Department provides tertiary services to the population of Northeast London and works collaboratively with other ophthalmology teams at the other major hospitals in London.
We are currently seeking a motivated consultant to take up the position of Consultant Ophthalmologist, with sub-specialty interest in Medical Retina.
This is an important post within the department, and we are hoping to recruit an innovative and committed colleague who is keen to work with the wider team to develop the service at The Royal London Hospital.
Main duties of the job
To support the running of the Medical Retina service across Barts Health taking a lead role at The Royal London Hospital (RLH). Consultants’ lists are set at between 6/9 patients per session for standard new/follow-up, and a maximum of 12 injection patients per session that are supported by 2 MR injection nurses. The consultant is also expected to oversee/support the junior doctors and optometrist’s clinic profiles. To be involved in the strategic planning and development of the Medical Retina service at RLH. To have responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and for the proper functioning of their departments. You will participate in the three tier RLH on-call rota (1 in 7) as the third tier, non-resident consultant support. To assume responsibility both singularly and corporately for the management of the junior medical staff.

Higher degree MD/PhD in Ophthalmology Full GMC Registration Professional Training in Ophthalmology: CCT (or equivalent), or within 6 months of a date, or entry on the Specialist Register of the GMC for Ophthalmology FRCOphth or equivalent Fellowship in Medical retina
Experience
Essential criteria
Experience with high volume cataract surgery Specialist Training: Broad experience in Medical retina Experience in Intra-vitreal Injections and Ophthalmic laser Experience with general, acute and primary care ophthalmology
