We are seeking a Paediatric Band 6 to come and join our amazing team. We are looking for an experienced nurse that is highly motivated and that has a passion to provide excellent care to patient whilst supporting and leading a busy Emergency Department.

This post provides the opportunity to learn and develop additional clinical and management skills alongside an established team.

The Emergency Department can be fast paced, you will be required to support juniors staff in areas such as triage and cubicles to enable flow through he department. The ability and confidence escalate concerns and support the 4 hour target within the emergency department.

The individual will need to act as a positive role model and encourage development within the team in order to deliver high standards of care, supporting new initiatives and continuously striving to achieve an outstanding Emergency department.

Main duties of the job

The department Provides 24 hour care through a variety of shift patterns. The individual will work closely with the team to ensure quality and safety within the department, ensuring junior staff are adhering to patient care and hourly observations are carried. To enable communication through a well run department and escalating concerns to the Matron within ED, ED consultant, Flow co-ordinator and

The individual will support the team on shift and provide education and learning with patients that are alerted in by ambulance and taken into the Resuscitation room.

The individual will provide support, education and teaching to staff/parents when the opportunity arises. To work and support in all areas within or associated with emergency care.

*To act as positive role model for the department delivering high standards of patient care.

*Communicate clearly, effectively and appropriately with the multidisciplinary team, patients and their family, visitors and carers.

*Facilitate teaching and development within the team. To encouraging learning opportunities.

*Achieve and maintain competence in mandatory and statutory training associated with the role.

*Complete documentation of care in line with the Trust Standards for Documentation and encourage the junior nursing team to do this .

*The post-holder must act in such a way as to promote a positive image of UHB Foundation Trust at all times.

Qualifications

Essential

*Registered Paediatric Nurse on the NMC register.

Desirable

*Health care management / leadership qualification.

Experience

Essential

*Substantial post registration experience working in a complex health care setting / Acute NHS care setting supervising / mentoring junior staff. *Evidence of professional /clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical and or managerial training and CPD. *Can demonstrate understanding / experience / willingness to be a practice based supervisor / assessor as detailed in the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment. *Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration. *Relevant and recent clinical experience within the speciality /acute care setting, including the supervision /education of junior staff. *Experience of mentoring undergraduate students. *Evidence of ability to lead /coordinate a shift /area of department. *Experience in learning from incidents /complaints and supporting changes in practice. *Demonstrable ability, experience and passion in the following: o Leadership o Team Building o Managing resources o Time management o Role modelling o Change management / clinical developments o Clinical governance o Audit and research o Workforce planning / management o NHS policy and political awareness
