Role Summary

This is an opportunity for an experienced Acute Occupational Therapist to work on:

General Surgery (Emergency) including patients with Chest Wall Injuries and Head Injuries. Elective Surgery (Urology, Colorectal, Upper GI, Abdominal wall). Intensive Care Unit.

You are required to be able to assess and treat patients with a variety of conditions and support the ongoing development of the Occupational Therapy Staff.

Main duties of the job:

To provide Clinical and Operational leadership.  Manual Handling, Rehabilitation and Cognitive assessment skills to bring out the best outcomes for this patient group.  To work with the Service lead, other Advanced Practitioners and the Multidisciplinary team. To ensure quality, clinical effectiveness and patient safety. To be actively involved in Service developments in line with local and national drivers and evidence based practice. To be involved in an active training programme. Participate in the Critical Care Network.  Participate in national audit and research projects.

We are looking for a dynamic Occupational Therapy Advanced Practitioner. The post holder will work across an integrated team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and the wider Multidisciplinary team. 

The Acute Inpatient Therapy team on Critical Care and Surgical sit alongside other sub teams of Respiratory, Gastroenterology, Medical rehabilitation, Orthopaedics and Trauma. 

You will be required to ensure delivery of high quality patient centred care measured by clinical effectiveness, patient safety and patient experience in line with national guidance.

You will be expected to work as an autonomous practitioner, be up to date with evidence-based practice and be able to offer advanced assessment and treatment skills of patients.

The post holder will be required to work with the other Advanced Practitioners to provide an education programme for Occupational Therapists to enable staff to maintain competencies and to develop depth of knowledge.

You will be responsible for ensuring excellence with in the team by initiating and participating in evidence-based projects and audit, to improve both immediate and future quality of care.

About You

You will be required to have experience at working in an Acute Hospital. As part of the role there will be a need to provide Advanced Occupational Therapy advice to the team and other disciplines / agencies. You will need to be able to cope with demands on your time with frequent interruptions.

Working Pattern: 8: - Monday to Friday and occasional additional weekend working.
