Role Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Orthoptist / Optometrist or Ophthalmic Nurse to join our team at the new South Molton Eye Centre. The Eye Centre has been designed to deliver a rapid diagnostic service for the Ophthalmology patients in North Devon.

The post holder will be required to work in an extended role as an Advanced Practitioner in Medical Retinal. A significant part of the post holder’s time will be spent virtually reviewing test results. The post will also contain an element of core Orthoptics / Optometry or Ophthalmic Nursing depending on the post holder’s professional qualification. The Medical Retinal aspect of this role will involve working alongside Ophthalmic Assistant colleagues to monitor and managing medical retinal patients. This role will support further development of the Medical Retinal service and the staff who provide this service.

We are a small, friendly, dynamic forward thinking department who encourage extended roles and innovative automatous working practices. There will be opportunity for the successful candidate to build on and gain excellent experience.

The Medical Retinal service is provided at the Acute Hospital base and several Community Hospital locations therefore the post holder must be able to travel as there will be a requirement to work at other locations.

This post can be developmental and we will consider applications from those with less relevant experience and provide appropriate development, training and mentoring opportunities. Those who do not have relevant experience will be paid at Band 6 rate and progress to Band 7 on completion of the relevant competencies.

Professional development is encouraged and full participation is required in clinical audit, clinical governance sessions, dedicated journal clubs, departmental meetings and courses/ seminars relevant to the role.
