The Interventional Psychiatry Service in Oxfordare looking for a highly motivated, skilled, flexible nurse to join the team caring for patients receiving Ketamine Therapy and/or Electro-convulsive Therapy (ECT), repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation ( rTMS).

This treatment is vital for patients suffering with treatment-resistant depression and can really make a different to their lives. We are looking for an enthusiastic, driven team player, with excellent communication, organisational and IT skills who takes initiative with passion and wants to join our friendly team.

The post holder will develop knowledge and skills across all three therapeutic areas and will participate in developing new aspects of the service, research, and may be involved in group preparation sessions.

The service currently provides:

ECT treatment on Tuesday and Friday mornings (16 treatments weekly ) Ketamine treatment to Oxfordshire patients on Tuesday and Friday ( 16 treatments weekly ) NHS Self-funded ketamine treatment on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays (48 treatments weekly ) rTMS service at the POWIC building ( 20 treatments weekly)

In this role, you will be working alongside the IPS Lead Nurse, IPS consultant, IPS doctors, nurses, technicians, anaesthetic team, wards, community staff as well as patient's and carers to ensure that patients receive an excellent standard of care.

We are interested in hearing from dual or Mental Health Registered Staff.

Main duties of the job

You will have a vital role in improving the lives of our Service Users (Adults, Older Adults and sometimes Adolescence) and will be delivering high quality care for patients receiving treatments (Ketamine infusions, Electro-Convulsive Therapy, rTMS) for treatment resistant depression. You will need the skills to develop a strong therapeutic relationship, in order to provide the right psychological and emotional support to both the patients and their carers.

Leading the care of our Ketamine patients you will be responsible for the screening process, reviewing these prior to doctors' assessment, and will be involved in assessing, planning, treating, monitoring, and evaluating their care, liaising with other teams.

Part of your role will be responsible for supervising other nurses and unqualified staff - acting as a role model, team player and providing mentoring experience. You will also work closely with the doctors when the treatments are administered and will deputise for the Lead Nurse, and will be responsible for the clinic in absence of the Lead Nurse.

Working alongside the administrators within the team you will help them to review the administrative side of the referral process and will need IT skills to manage the clinical aspects of the Ketamine, ECT, rTMS and systems.

Job responsibilities

You will take a lead role in co-ordinating, screening, assessing, implementing, and evaluating patients and their treatment plans for Ketamine, workingas part of the ECT nursing team, and you will contribute to the development and maintenance of ECTAS standards.

Being responsible for the safe administration of Ketamine and ECT under the direction of the IPS doctors and anaesthetic team you will need to build strong working relationships with the doctors across all three therapeutic areas: Ketamine, ECT, rTMS and be able to communicate effectively and build positive relationships with them.

You will need to prepare patients for ketamine infusions and ECT, undertaking observations, confirming consents and other specified pre-treatments checks, monitoring and supervising ketamine patients throughout their infusion in accordance with current protocol.

Taking an active role in the development and maintenance of policy and protocol for Ketamine, ECT, rTMS and support all clinics if needed, you will have the opportunity to use cannulation skills, or you will receive the appropriate training to be able to cannulate.

The pattern of work for this role can vary but shifts will typically be Monday to Friday (7am -3pm or 8am-4pm and 9am-5pm).
