Senior Educational Mental Health Practitioner - Band 6

Full time, permanent role

We have an exciting, innovative and unique role within our RISE Early Help Service. The role will be based within our Mental Health in Schools Team offer, which was part of a successful trailblazer program stemming from the green paper in 2017. The service has multiple Mental Health in Schools Teams across Coventry and Warwickshire.

We are seeking applicants who are passionate about working with children and young people, families, education staff and the wider school community to provide evidence-based and innovative support for emotional wellbeing and mental health.

To work within The Mental Health in Schools Team, offering full comprehensive assessments and intervention in a range of settings and evaluate the mental health care to children, young people and their families in line with local and national guidelines.

To provide regular and on-going consultation, joint work, training and advice to schools and other agency staff in relation to child and adolescent mental health to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people.

To manage a caseload of young people, who require CBT interventions & supporting low intensity practitioners (EMHPs) with the delivery of low intensity CBT interventions.

To provide clinical supervision to Education Mental Health Practitioners and trainee's this may include individual, group or Whole School and College approach supervision.

To take a lead in Whole School and College Approach; for example linking in with schools who are struggling to engage and supporting the EMHP allocated to that school.

To support EMHP's in improving the delivery of Whole school approach, for example modelling the delivery of workshops or engaging in whole school self assessments.

To assess the current mental health need of children and young people referred to MHST.

To identify areas of need for children and their families and to assist their being able to access appropriate services.

To act always in such a way as to promote and safeguard the wellbeing and interests of patients and clients in accordance with National Occupation Standard

To plan, support, implement and manage programmes for children and their families in conjunction with other professionals and /or other agencies.

To identify areas of need for children and their families and to assist their being able to access appropriate services.

To advise agencies on the most appropriate service for the child, dependent on need.

To work in collaboration with adult mental health services for the care of young people whose mental health needs are likely to continue into adulthood.

To take responsibility for the management of his/her own caseload.

To undertake online appointments and attend case conference reviews as appropriate.

To take responsibility for own continuing professional development in order to meet statutory requirements and to utilise relevant research and evidence based practice.

To develop and utilise specialist knowledge about working with children and their families.

To hold a caseload independently and as part of the multi-disciplinary team, working with children with moderate mental health needs

To undertake comprehensive and specific assessments of the children's and families' needs and in partnership, working with other disciplines/agencies.

To work as part of a team to coordinate the delivery of care.

To work in partnership with others, to assess and identify the childs needs, taking into account parenting capacity, environment as well as the childs needs.

Follow processes of reasoning which balance additional information against the overall picture of the child

Decide upon interventions from a holistic assessment needs.

To support and supervise EMHPs with low intensity interventions and implementing whole school approach principles.

Ensure care plans have clear measurable goals which have taken into account the views of the child and carers, inclusive of routine outcome measures.

Coordinate the delivery of care, feeding in relevant information to support wider service planning.

Monitor the implementation of care plans and make changes to better meet the needs of children with Moderate health and well-being needs.

Provide training and competency assessments for students, staff trainees on placement.

Person Specification

QUALIFICATION

Essential

Relevant professional qualification, , Educational mental health practitioner, Other qualifications also include: social worker, nurse, occupational therapist, speech & language therapist, psychotherapist, psychologist, allied health professional, however you must also have relevant Low Intensity Intervention training and associated qualification. Low Intensity Supervision Qualification or an agreement to work towards in order to fulfil role requirements. Relevant training and experience, inclusive of specialist short courses Professional knowledge acquired through appropriate training Evidence of continuing professional development

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
