Job summary

We are excited to offer a new opportunity in the Solent Safeguarding team to an individual who has experience working in community health with children and young people, representing their health needs and voice within statutory safeguarding duties such as child protection conferences.

The role will require the facilitator to support the development of this new position, working in collaboration with other health professionals and safeguarding partners to ensure health statutory requirements are fulfilled.

The safeguarding team provide specialist safeguarding support and advice to Solent NHS Trust, MASH, and health colleagues. The team are responsible for the safeguarding training offer and provision for all Solent staff and are actively involved in multiagency training provision. The team provide and support the Trusts safeguarding supervision requirements including supporting staff in restorative and reflective practice.

This is a new dedicated post within the team to support the health response within the child protection and child in need statutory requirements within the place-based Southampton area.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will act as the health representative responsible for the health response within child protection and child in need case conferences where there is no identified health practitioner actively working with the child, young person or family.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across a range of agencies and work with a multiagency approach to ensure statutory safeguarding duties are fulfilled.

They will display excellent communication skills, written and verbal and ensure accurate and appropriate records and reports are maintained.

Will facilitate good practice in prevention, identification, actioning and management of safeguarding children and young people at risk cases when actual or suspected abuse has occurred.

Adopt Solent NHS Trust view that safeguarding is everyones responsibility and advocates a Think Family approach to safeguarding and support service development

Ability to navigate electronic health records liaising with other health professionals to gather and analysis health information for the purpose of compiling comprehensive health reports.

Health representation and attendance at child protection and child in need conferences to advocate on behalf of the health needs of the child or young person.

Ability to develop and maintain effective processes and systems to support this new role including capturing and analysing data to evidence the impact and outcomes.

About us

We have been working with other local NHS Trusts to create a new organisation, bringing together all community, mental health and learning disability services from across Hampshire and Isle of Wight. Subject to approvals, the aim is for the new Trust to be formed by July 2024.

Project Fusion is the name for the programme to create the new combined NHS Foundation Trust. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust will be bringing the services into a single organisation will result in more consistent care, more equitable access to services irrespective of postcode, and a more sustainable workforce and services. The new organisation will operate locally to ensure services can best meet the needs of different communities.

The new Trust will be comprised of all the services currently provided by Solent NHS Trust and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, the community, mental health and learning disability services provided by Isle of Wight NHS Trust and child and adolescent mental health services delivered in parts of Hampshire by Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

Colleagues will transfer to the new organisation under Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) -- known as TUPE on 1st July 2024. TUPE is a legal process to ensure you transfer out of one organisation and into another, maintaining the terms and conditions of your employment.
