You will be a key member of the people, organisational development and communications division and will provide leadership both within the people team and as a senior leader across the organisation. This role can make a significant difference to our patients, our people and community.

You will be a member of the trust-wide senior people team with a portfolio that impacts across the whole organisation. You will also work closely with Integrated Care Board (ICB) colleagues to help shape collaborative and integrated working that is aligned to the people plan and national and local inclusion strategies

This is a six month fixed term contract, secondments are welcome.

Main duties of the job

To support the trust and the director of people in ensuring the provision of a high quality, efficient, effective and patient-focused people service. To provide workforce expertise to support the trust in achieving its vision and aims. To deputise for the director of people across the range of her/his responsibilities including attendance at board of directors' meetings and executive directors' meetings. To lead the recruitment, resourcing and temporary staffing, people business partnering, people information systems and payroll, and health and wellbeing functions. To help create a culture where continuous learning is seen as central to the delivery of care and the achievement of organisational objectives.

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust provides a full range of general acute, outpatient and diagnostic services at The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, the Herts and Essex Hospital in Bishop's Stortford, and St Margaret's Hospital in Epping.

We employ 3,700 staff and serve a local population of around 350,000 people living in west Essex and east Hertfordshire, centred on the M11 corridor and the towns of Harlow, Bishop's Stortford and Epping. Our extended catchment area incorporates a population of up to 500,000 and includes the areas of Hoddesdon, Cheshunt and Broxbourne in Hertfordshire.

Job responsibilities

To contribute to the development of the trusts people strategy ensuring that local, regional and national policy initiatives and best employment practices are incorporated into trust, policies and practices and their implementation supports the trusts vision, values and priorities. To support the director of people in ensuring that other actions developed support wider organisational development strategies such as the improvement of patient experience and trust values. To ensure that all workforce services meet all statutory and other regulatory requirements. To support the adoption of a strategic approach to employee health and wellbeing. To support the development of partnership working with trade unions and professional bodies to enable positive and constructive employee relations to enable the trust to deliver its financial targets and corporate strategic and operational objectives.
