The Role:

We’re looking for a Packaging Technologist to provide advice and solutions regarding all technical packaging requirements across the organisation.  The Packaging Technologist will take ownership of all packaging related issues and logistics specifications.  Working closely with Suppliers, Technical, Production, Procurement, Quality and Marketing, the Packaging Technologist will provide innovative options on new and existing product and packaging upgrades as well as driving a continuous improvement and sustainability packaging agenda. 

 

Key responsibilities:

 

  • Provide support for New Product Development/Innovation and Portfolio Management Processes, defining packaging specifications, costs, and ensuring process capability.
  • Drive the sustainability agenda by collaborating with the CSR & Environment Team, Supply Chain, and Procurement, and keeping up to date with packaging sustainability and global sourcing developments.
  • Source new packaging and suppliers according to design briefs or procurement projects and manage change control and line trials for new packaging initiatives.
  • Offer technical support to Procurement for new and existing packaging sourcing requirements, identifying opportunities for cost and quality improvements.
  • Ensure packaging components and specifications align with third-party manufacturers, machinery, and quality control requirements, and manage all related specifications within the QMS system.
  • Establish strong technical relationships with stakeholders to minimise manufacturing downtime due to packaging inefficiencies and contribute to profit improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical guidance on all packaging-related matters, including artwork approval for technical elements, packaging waste support, and control of barcodes to GS1 standards.

Requirements

We’d love you to have:

  • Demonstrable, relevant experience in Pharma, Cosmetics, Toiletries, or FMCG.
  • Experience working with Technical, Quality, Production, Procurement, and Commercial departments to resolve and document packaging issues.
  • Good understanding of pharma regulations and requirements.
  • Established working relationships with external suppliers and industry experts within the packaging industry.
  • Current knowledge of packaging developments and industry trends.
  • Understanding of technical administration, including packaging specifications.
  • Knowledge and experience of ERP systems such as SAP, QMS management systems such as Q Pulse, and Artwork Management Systems.
