Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a full-time permanent Band 6 Clinical Educator within the Education Team for Childrens Surgery. The Clinical Education role is part of a wider team across the childrens hospital and is responsible for overseeing and facilitating the development of all learners in the clinical practice setting. This is through supporting staff by utilising mentoring, and coaching and leading on quality assessment of skills and knowledge. The applicant will also be responsible for coordination and joint delivery of the surgical and specialist surgery education which will include neurology and neurosurgical specialism. The role requires a high level of collaboration with services such as neonatal surgery and theatres to streamline surgical training, education, and skills to maintain safety and patient experience.

Main duties of the job

The applicant should be highly motivated, possess excellent organisational skills and the ability to motivate and inspire others through the creation of an innovative culture of education and learning. Applicants must be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, establish effective links, and network regionally and with the wider MDT and other education links nationally. The applicant will be knowledgeable and possess the skills and experience required to work in childrens surgery. Additional aspects of the role include developing education programmes and monitoring staff compliance in skills, competencies, and training which will include the co-ordination and oversight of maintaining equipment compliance. The applicant will work alongside clinical staff to support rotating, returning, or new to practice staff.

Additionally, there may be the opportunity for contracted hours to be factored in to work as a clinical band 6 to develop and maintain clinical skills and expertise across the specialities. The candidate will have the opportunity to bring their own ideas to improve education and staff development throughout general and specialist surgery.

2. JOB PURPOSE

The Jobholder will play an essential role supporting Nursing and Midwifery (including ODP) education by facilitating education, training and practice development within Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

The job holder will facilitate the development of clinical staff both registered and unregistered.

The job holder will support the assessment of the quality of clinical and other practice learning environments, and implement interventions for improvement. The job holder will support mentors / assessors and clinical professional development for preceptorship.

The job holder will support the development of clinical practice mentors and key trainers, providing supervision through on-site support and continuous professional development activities.

The job holder will support the development of interdisciplinary and whole service working. As a role model they will promote the sharing of good practice and delivery of high quality, effective and efficient care.

3. JOB DIMENSION

To support, educate and develop registered and unregistered staff in their clinical role and competencies in order to deliver high quality evidence based care for service users.

The post holder will contribute to the planning, implementation and evaluation of education and training of registered and unregistered nursing staff.

They will work in collaboration with the senior management team to maintain and project the vision and objectives of the service and ensure that they are embedded in practice.

They will identify and celebrate good practice and share with local and Trust teams.

The post holder will lead by example, will be responsible for disseminating good practice and actively challenging assumptions, practice and performance where appropriate.
