In this role, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team (Nursing, OT, Psychology, and Social Work) to provide care and treatment for up to 10 service users in single occupancy apartments.
As a Consultant Psychiatrist, some of your key responsibilities will include management of complex cases, formulating care plans and treatments for individual needs of service users, and guiding on evidence-based treatment and effectiveness.
As a member of the Medical Directorate, you will advise on psychiatric and medical issues within the unit and be responsible for the administration of the Mental Health Act, Clinical Policy, and Clinical Standards.

Key Responsibilities of the Consultant Psychiatrist include:

  1. Liaison and collaborative working with care coordinators, commissioners, families, carers, and other services/agencies.
  2. Jointly, within the Medical Directorate, develop and review Directorate policies and procedures to meet requirements of statutory bodies.
  3. Mental Health Act implementation and liaison with the Ministry of Justice (if applicable).
  4. Multi-disciplinary, multi-agency, and partnership working.
  5. Undertaking the administrative duties associated with the care of patients, ensuring all NHSE contractual obligations are met, and ensuring initial discharge summaries are sent out within 24 hours of discharge.
  6. Maintaining professional registration with the General Medical Council and abiding by professional codes of conduct.
  7. Maintaining section 12(2) and approved clinician status.

* The hospital runs a two-tier on-call system with first tier on-call provided by associate specialists and agency on-call. The post holder will be required to be part of the second tier hospital on-call as the duty Responsible Clinician.
The post holder will be expected to provide cover for other medical colleagues during leave and other absences, and this is reciprocated.

To be successful as an applicant you’ll need:

  1. MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  2. Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
  3. MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
  4. Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
  5. To hold Section 12(2) approval to work in England and Approved clinician status.
  6. Experience in General Adult settings and have experience of working in a multidisciplinary team.
  7. Experience of working within acute inpatient or community settings, ideally inpatient settings, and have experience in risk assessment and risk management.
