An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated team player to join our well established Orthopaedic Department at the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation successful candidate will be a Full Time (10 PAs) appointment in Trauma and Orthopaedics with a specialist interest in primary elective hip and knee arthroplasties. The successful candidate will be expected to have Consultant level-expertise in general trauma surgery, plus a special interest in complex lower limb trauma such as fixation of peri-prosthetic fractures and management of peri-articular fractures of the knee.

The candidate will be expected to integrate within the team of 13 existing consultants in order to provide a complete Trauma and Orthopaedic service. The department is also undergoing an exciting service expansion at present. The post may require the appointee to work flexibly by working at the South of the Mersey Hub located at Clatterbridge Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will be responsible for the care of patients referred by general practitioners, other hospital Consultants and other hospital departments and will undertake clinics, ward rounds and theatre lists. 'Programmed Activities' as appropriate.

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:

The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds. Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility. Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.

The Trust employs over 6258 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000. This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.

The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.

Essential

oCCT/CCST in Orthopaedic surgery or equivalent and on the specialist register, or within 6 months of CCT/CCST at the time of application. oOn Specialist Register of the General Medical Council or within six months of anticipated CCT date on the date of Interview. oATLS or European Trauma Course

Essential

oSpecialist interest post CCT Lower limb arthroplasty fellowship of 12 months oExperience in daycase hip and knee arthroplasty surgeries oExperience and training in Adult and Paediatric Orthopaedic trauma. oExperience and demonstrate proficiencies in complex lower limb trauma, eg periprosthetic fracture, THR for fracture neck of femur, tibia plateau fracture, distal femur fracture and etc. oExperience /Interest in teaching oDemonstrate the use of Clinical Audit within the Service oDemonstrate use of Quality improvement in improvement of services oDemonstrate the use of research and evidence base to practice

Desirable

oExperience in elective hip and knee at consultant level for 12 months oExperience in managing complex primary hip and knee arthroplasties oTeaching skills courses, PG Cert, MSc
