Psychological Wellbeing Outreach Worker - Cheshire East
Salary £25,000 - £27,500 pro rata
Hours 17.5 (worked over a minimum of 3 days. Flexible working patterns considered)
Contract Type Permanent

Description of project
Pure Insight is a charity that was established in 2013 as a direct response to issues highlighted by young people leaving care. We provide practical and emotional support to young people through a difficult transition period from ages 16-28.

Our success is based on understanding the needs of young care leavers, developing trusting relationships and engagement of the local community to identify local solutions. By directly involving young people in the design and delivery of our projects we can link them into a variety of different support networks allowing them to access the help and advice they need to solve problems, overcome barriers, improve health and wellbeing, gain confidence and move forward with their lives.

The post of psychological wellbeing worker is an established post in Cheshire East.

This role is 75% working with young care leavers to teach a range of skills under safety and stabilisation - such as learning self-care and self-regulatory skills, understanding any current or historical diagnosis/labels and what impact this has on them now, delivering therapeutic interventions or supporting them to access other appropriate services. This post involves remote, outreach lone working so it is essential you are self-motivating, able to prioritise your own work and develop a schedule that works for the varied needs of the different people you will be supporting. We value people who can offer us flexibility and in return you get a huge amount of autonomy over how you do your role.

This project will provide a service that is flexible and responsive to the mental health needs of care leavers living in Salford.

Vision
- Enabling the most traumatised young people in our community to access trauma informed mental health support at a pace and using methods that are most suited to their needs.
- Pilot new ways of supporting young care leavers with their mental health resulting in projects that can be scaled up locally and shared nationally.

Key Outcomes
- Increasing access to coping strategies and improving mental wellbeing through safety and stabilisation
- Increasing the support available to care leavers by making mental health services more accessible.
- Empower young people to seek help at an earlier stage and/or to set up their own mental health/mental wellbeing peer support groups, with appropriate support.

Main Objectives
- To provide trauma informed therapeutic support to young care leavers in the community (at times and in places suitable to them, often in their own homes).
- Provide trauma informed training to upskill other professionals working with care leavers.
- Build relationships and liaise with other relevant health professionals around the mental health needs of care leavers.
- Monitor and prioritise referrals into the Fast Track Trauma Counselling service.
- Support the development of a youth led project - a safe social media space to stamp out stigma and share experiences/peer support.

Detailed Description
- To work with young people aged 16-25 providing assessment of need.
- To work with young people who present with symptoms resulting from experiences of trauma, provide interventions to support safety and stabilisation.
- Manage referrals into the trauma therapist at a time that feels appropriate to the young person if they are suitable for regular therapy.
- Provide trauma informed training to upskill staff and volunteers working with care leavers in social care and Pure Insight.
- To manage your own caseload.
- Provide group activity to steer parts of the project that promote resilience and developing relationships including the social media /blog space.
- Build and maintain relationships with relevant professionals working with care leavers, advocating on behalf of young people where necessary.
- To deal quickly and effectively with safeguarding issues as they arise.
- Make appropriate referrals as and when they are needed in consultation with young people and provide the practical support needed to access other services - a knowledge of local appropriate services is necessary.
- To work within Pure Insight’s confidentiality guidelines and safeguarding practice and policies.

Qualities
- Maintain appropriate and up to date records of your work, including case notes and monitoring forms.
- To assist with the monitoring and evaluation of the service, and the development of more effective methods for monitoring and evaluation.
- Attend both individual and group supervision in line with the requirements o the service.
- To ensure that you are familiar with, understand and work within all service policies and procedures as they relate to your work.
