The opportunity

As part of our continuing expansion, we have an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to take up the new role of Head of Subsidence – UK & Ireland. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in this sector and will be responsible for driving the development of our profile and new subsidence proposition. The role will report to an Executive Director and will be a Leadership Team position.

 

Initially, the role will have no direct reports although there will be matrix line management of adjusters handling subsidence claims across several Practices. The role therefore requires close working relationships with other specialist Practice Heads, Operational Heads and Client Directors/Managers. This is a Leadership position.

 

Working closely with your report line and with the Subsidence Technical Lead, you will amongst others, also engage with the Property Practices Director, the Heads of Commercial Property, the Head of Private Clients & Estates and the Head of Casualty

 

The role

 

Your responsibilities will include:

Strategy

  • Use your own market contacts/ following to help shape and build a subsidence proposition.
  • In collaboration with your report line, build a strategic plan to grow McLarens business across new and existing clients for work in the Subsidence sector.
  • Working with Client Directors/ Managers; understand our position with new, existing and target clients to help model the plan.
  • Lead the new Subsidence team to operationally deliver to business requirements.

Operational Controls and Process

  • Heads of Specialist Practices and Operation Heads; Review current Subsidence business and engage with this group to;
    • Ensure we have an identifiable proposition in all areas for the sector.
    • Act as a focal point for any sector specific enquiries.
    • Through knowledge share, help train and mentor individuals.
    • Work with the existing operational framework for efficient service delivery.
    • Build as appropriate a new Subsidence Practice and proposition, including the potential for ring-fenced resource.
    • Analyse and report on MI.
    • Prepare the business and assist with surge management.
    • Development and coordination of webinars / presentations.
    • Collaboratively reduce longtail claims lifecycle.
    • Keep abreast of developments in legislative, regulatory, advisory and guidance pertaining to subsidence.
    • Keep updated and report on Innovative mitigation, ground remediation and repair solutions.
    • Continue to raise the profile of Resilience and Sustainability in the context of Subsidence.
    • Develop / collaborate on technical bulletins.​​​​​​​

Business Development

  • Lead on Subsidence sector business development and thought leadership to promote, raise and develop McLarens’ profile.
  • Achieve profitable growth of the McLarens Subsidence sector by;
    • Building relationships with all influential parties including key personnel in Insurers, MGAs, Local, Regional and National Brokers, Risk and Insurance Managers who have Property subsidence risks.
    • Personally seek, secure and retain nominations through active management.
    • Devise and support a UK and Ireland model to enhance growth.
    • Involvement in tenders and presentations as required.
    • Through knowledge share, help train and mentor Insureds, Brokers, and Insurers.

 

  • Delivery of excellent and consistent performance against set performance measures such as:
    • Client SLA’s
    • Claims Lifecycle
    • Reserve Accuracy
    • Exception reports
    • External audits
    • Internal QA measures
    • Indemnity Savings
    • Compliments
    • Complaints
    • Customer Feedback (Engage Surveys, Compliments & Complaints Data)

Case management

  • Manage your own portfolio, the profile of which will focus on Subsidence claims.
  • Operational oversight and indirect/ direct management of adjusters handling subsidence claims.
About you - Knowledge and Experience
  • Suitable qualifications for a technical role in this sector.
  • Strong experience in a business development role and seasoned at handling subsidence claims.
  • Excellent Communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management including a proven track record of building healthy working relationships, externally and internally, in the field of subsidence.
  • Personal pride in delivering outputs on time, with a focus on quality and communication, whilst managing multiple deadlines.
  • A willingness to travel throughout the UK and Ireland is required as and when, so flexibility is a must.
  • Excellent negotiation, decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to prioritise effectively and deal with conflicting demands.
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently to self-manage work and time.
  • Tenacious and driven.
