Apprentice Manufacturing Machinist

As a Manufacturing Machinist Apprentice, you will be expected to develop the high level of skill and knowledge required to carry out the manufacture and repair/modifications of aircraft components, for a variety of aircraft across many customers, safely, to the required quality requirement, on time and within budget.
Duties of a Manufacturing Machinist Apprentice:
Attend and engage with training, including exams and 1-2-1 meetings with your tutors/assessors.
Manage your time effectively to complete all coursework, assignments and exams required to achieve the apprenticeship.
Reflect on your own practice and experiences and take any feedback onboard.
Manufacture of new metallic aircraft components, including the modification and repair of existing parts to OEM & MA Engineering data
Manufacturing of Aerospace product using the below methods:
Manual milling machining
Manual Lathes
Computer Numerical Control (CNC) 3 & 5 Axis milling
Computer Numerical Control (CNC) lathes
Boring using Jog bore manual machine.
Manual grinding
Computer Numerical Control (CNC) tool &cutter grinding.
Follow detail planning instructions and consult with Manufacturing Engineers to identify any problems pre or post job completion.
Work closely as part of a small team of machinists to ensure work is completed on time and budget, this will require regular rotation around various machines.
As a Manufacturing Machinist, the role has by necessity, an extremely high level of quality control in order to maintain the Manufacturing Facilities regulatory standards.
There is a requirement for you to gain a developed understanding of Marshall Aerospace Manufacturing and OEM processes and procedures in order to be compliant with these standards.
Once qualified you will become an approved/authorised machinist and would be expected to certify your own work using precision measuring equipment.
Further training will be available once qualified in other areas of the Manufacturing department i.e., Sheet Metal Fabrication, Assembly, Special Process
The Apprenticeship
Your apprenticeship will be delivered by our very own Marshall Skills Academy and one of our partner training providers. As an Apprentice – Manufacturing Machinist working in our Manufacturing Aerospace facility, you will be following the Level 3 Machining Technician Apprenticeship Standard.
More information on this standard can be found on the institute for apprenticeships website. You will gain the following qualifications during the 4-year programme:
Level 2 Diploma in Aerospace & Aviation Engineering (foundation Competence)
Level 3 Diploma in Machining (development knowledge)
You will work towards developing the knowledge, skills and behaviours required through a range of workshop training, classroom sessions and on the job learning. Not only will you develop your technical skills you will also have the opportunity to develop the behaviours needed to set the foundation for your future career. You will be supported every step of the way by our instructors, mentors, line managers and fellow apprentices.

Entry requirements
You must have at least 5 GCSEs at Grade A*-C/4-9 (or equivalent) including Mathematics and English
You must not have already completed the level 2 and 3 qualifications listed above in the apprenticeship section.
In order to receive apprenticeship funding you must have the right to work in the UK and meet residency eligibility requirements
You must successfully pass all required medical and security checks if you are offered a place on the apprenticeship programme.
