The Pharmacy Department at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (Worthing and St. Richards) is delighted to be able to offer a full-time vacancy for a Band 3 Senior Pharmacy Assistant. Main duties of the job

You will have a leadership role within the department, involving the management of Band 2 assistants within an area of responsibility of the dispensary i.e. Outpatient services or In Patient/Discharges.

You will be a logical thinker with good communication skills as the role must support the smooth running of the dispensary and as a leader, you will perform tasks such workflow monitoring to ensure orders reach the wards and external units in a timely manner. This will include picking and dispensing stock from the pharmacy stores and robot, booking in orders, processing returns, ordering consumables and ensuring driver collections are met. At all times working to reduce medicines waste.

You will need to be computer literate, although some support will be provided. The post holders are expected to use judgment and initiative in solving their own and their team's problems but refer to senior staff when necessary. Education and Learning is an important part of our service and you will be working alongside the learning and development team to provide training to new and existing staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will be involved in the daily operation of the dispensary which will include producing labels using the computer system Wellsky and dispensing medication for patients.

To assist in supplying the provision of a safe, efficient and effective pharmaceutical service at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. To provide line management of staff in line with departmental procedures. To dispense in-patient, out-patient, discharge and clinical trial prescriptions in line with departmental procedures. To support the ward based pharmacy team to deliver a high level of pharmaceutical care to patients. To participate in the potential to undertake accredited checking qualification (tbc under review).
