Job summary

This is a full-time role ( hours per week) for a pharmacy technician to play an integral part of the clinical pharmacy service to the pre-assessment department. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the pharmacy and pre-assessment teams at the RNOH.

We are seeking a self-motivated, innovative and enthusiastic individual who will be working alongside the Principal Pharmacist and Specialist Pharmacist in Pre-assessment. There is huge scope for the successful applicant to develop on both a personal and professional level through exposure to all departmental activities in this newly created post.

Key responsibilities include:

To provide a safe and effective specialist clinical pharmacy service to the pre-assessment clinic (PAC) Assess and prioritise pharmaceutical requirements for patients reviewed prior to their surgical procedures To manage own case load and provide expert advice on medicines when appropriate Support the development and evaluation of pharmacy services to the PAC Contribute to education and training of nursing, medical and pharmacy staff in specialist area Act as a role model to junior technician staff

Main duties of the job

Working closely with the pharmacy and PAC multidisciplinary teams, you will:

Contribute to the provision of a high quality patient focused medicines optimisation service to patients of the Trust. Support pharmacists in service provision and extending the role of a pharmacy technician in PAC Help audit the service against set standards and assist in the review of service provision Ensure safe use of patients' own medicines to optimise cost efficiency Provide specialist pharmacy technical input into EPMA & POA digital systems, contributing towards both operational and strategic development Carry out medicine histories, advice on medications to be stopped or continued for surgery and escalate for review to pharmacists

Qualifications

Essential

Professional qualification in Pharmacy Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council

Desirable

Qualification or equivalent experience in managing and developing complex IT systems Appropriate short management courses Specialist courses/experience in medicines management Project Management qualification and project management experience

A minimum of 3 years clinical pharmacy experience in an acute NHS Trust Proven experience working as a healthcare professional in a hospital setting Experience in training An understanding of the NHS and the interrelationship at a local and national level Has working clinically/good knowledge of clinical systems and processes in the NHS Understanding in principle change management procedures

Desirable

Previous experience working in the support of clinical applications /systems Experience in training users in use of complex IT systems Technical experience of clinical applications / systems Previous experience of electronic prescribing implementation or use Experience of problem solving and negotiating with clinical and non-clinical staff
