Job Advert Location Description

Priory Hospital Lincolnshire is a 28 bed forensic low secure hospital comprising of two 14 bed wards; Lancaster being the acute admissions ward and Scampton being the rehabilitation ward focusing on community reintegration. 

The service supports male patients detained under the Mental Health Act, experiencing mental illness and personality disorders.

Situated in peaceful surroundings in the Lincolnshire countryside, approximately 10 miles from the town of Gainsborough.

Job Advert Role Description

As a Senior Occupational Therapy Assistant, you will provide assistance to professional and clinical staff with the planning, implementation and evaluation of therapy and care plans in order to support the mental, emotional, physical and social well-being of patients within the service. 


An occupation is what is specific to the patient. As a Senior Occupational Therapy Assistant you will focus on what occupations make the patients who they are and what occupations are unique to the patients as a whole and holistic person. You will include more therapeutic meaning and involvement in regard to individual and group sessions with patients. You will be guided by the Occupational Therapist and provide care from a clinical intervention side. You will support and encourage patients to accomplish daily occupations whilst analysing patients’ skills of development. This helps the Occupational Therapist to support patients reintegrating back into the community. 

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

Facilitating individual and group occupational therapy sessions (e.g. productivity, leisure and self-care)
Setting individualistic and specific goals (including physical health) in liaison with each patient
Helping patients to improve their self-care e.g. by supporting them to learn domestic skills such as to use a washing machine or to cook for themselves
Help patients manage their money by learning budgeting skills and how to use banks
Support patients to live independently by providing systems to assist in dealing with, for example, mail and bills 
Work with patients to access and use mainstream leisure occupations
Provide advice on how much assistance a patient may need to live independently in the long-term 
Creating event days e.g. Occupational Therapy Week
Providing supervision for Real Life Work Opportunities to patients and completing timesheets
Attending Community Meetings
Updating the Occupational Therapy notice boards for each ward
Opportunities for continuing professional development
Supervision with the Occupational Therapist on a monthly basis
Updating patient folders - both paper based and electronically
Being attentive with note writing for each interaction and Occupational Therapy session held with patients
Admin ordering
Creating statistical data on excel for Occupational Therapy petty cash
Booking cars/vans/venues for Occupational Therapy sessions
Completing section 17 paperwork for Occupational Therapy section 17 leave
Proving educational support specific to individual needs, remaining client-centred
Facilitating faith/cultural-related related activities specific to patient needs
To liaise with the Activity Coordinators (who are included in the Occupational Therapy Department) in order to show excellent teamwork and for the continuous monitoring of development of the patients’ skills and abilities.
