Job summary

A exciting opportunity has opened on the Children's Outpatient Department.

You will be responsible for the management and co-ordination of patients attending the Children's Outpatients Department, undertaking a variety of nurse led clinics, including Phlebotomy, Allergy, growth clinic and Botox clinic.

The post holder will work closely with the clinical specialists to provide treatment, assessment and expertise for a diverse group of children and young people.

You will supervise and support junior members of the team and pre-registration nursing students to ensure safe and effective care is delivered at all times.

Main Tasks & Overview of Responsibilities

Assess, deliver and evaluate planned programmes of care to meet the patient's health needs and general well-being during nurse led clinics. Establish and maintain effective communication with individuals and groups overcoming any problems in communication. Contribute to the development of services. Must work well with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure patients have a safe and effective journey throughout the service. Will play a key role in the supervision and assessment of pre and post basic learners and unregistered staff providing a teaching role and acting as named supervisor. Promote people's equality, diversity and rights. Maintain and support the efficient use of physical and /or financial resources.

Job responsibilities

Responsibility for Patient Care (including monitoring, diagnostics + investigations)

To assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care programmes. To obtain peoples informed consent and discuss the implications of the whole assessment process. To practice in accordance with the professional, ethical and legal framework for nursing. To undertake nursing interventions consistent with evidence-based practice, transferring and applying knowledge and skills to meet patients needs To monitor the effectiveness of nursing care and adjust the programmes of care where indicated. To refer people to other practitioners when needs and risks are beyond ones own scope of practice or require longer term support. To utilise clinical skills Venepuncture, Skin Prick Testing, Inhaler technique, wound care. To offer advice and support regarding acute and long term paediatric continence. To support patients/carers, encouraging them to promote their own health and wellbeing and to express their interests and concerns. To evaluate the effectiveness of all interventions in meeting prior agreed goals and making any necessary modifications. To review all aspects of the care plan and identifying when it is not addressing the patients needs and renegotiating the care plan to meet the childs needs. To maintain accurate and legible patient notes (written and electronic) in accordance with Trust and national professional policies and guidelines.

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as an Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC PIN within the next 3 months. Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.
