The Team

Our Legal team plays an integral role as a strategic business partner to support Invesco’s objectives by ensuring the legal and ethical integrity of the firm. The team has four distinct areas of expertise:

Investments: working alongside the fund managers, analysts and traders to help them understand, make and manage their investments;

Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs): working closely with the wider ETF team on a variety of issues relating to the development, operation and distribution of ETF products;

Distribution and Product Management: supporting all aspects of the Invesco product range, including product launches and the distribution of products across the region; and

Corporate and Commercial: managing the commercial contracts relating to Invesco’s corporate activities, including outsourcing agreements, procurement contracts, software licences and any other general contract law issues.

The Opportunity

Are you looking for an outstanding start to your legal career? Do you have an interest in the investment management industry? You’ll get to combine both of your interests by joining our legal traineeship programme You’ll hone your legal skills by rotating across our four teams and can expect to be involved in a wide range of work to develop your legal knowledge within an asset management context and to achieve the SRA prescribed competencies for trainee solicitors. By way of some examples, you will have exposure to:

Working with investment teams to give the legal angle on commercial questions;

Negotiating and executing trading and investments documentation relating to the life-cycle of an investment;

Project managing more complex investments alongside the investment teams and support teams;

Working on Invesco fund ranges, including drafting and coordinating regulatory applications, as well as providing junior legal support with fund documentation;

Analysing and communicating regulatory change to different areas of the business;

Drafting and negotiating distribution agreements, platform agreements, terms of business, rebate agreements and fund link agreements;

Instructing and managing external counsel;

Drafting, reviewing and updating prospectuses, KIID documentation and other fund and service provider agreements relating to our ETF business; and

Drafting, negotiating and finalising a wide variety of commercial contracts.

There may also be an opportunity to do a secondment with one of our top tier partner law firms.

During your traineeship, you can expect a high level of responsibility, independent working and internal client contact within a supportive, employee-centric environment.

You’ll have the chance to use your outstanding relationship building skills to support internal clients and to formulate pragmatic and commercial solutions.

If you have a keen interest in investment and finance, excellent written and interpersonal skills, with a credible and persuasive style, we'd love to hear from you.

Sound exciting? To be considered for this traineeship, you’ll need:

Academics: we require that applicants have either a Qualifying Law degree (minimum 2:1) - please see the SRA website for details; this predominantly means an English law degree, with limited exceptions - or a non-Qualifying Law Degree and the GDL conversion course.

Further training: we require that applicants have either completed the Legal Practice Course (LPC) or Solicitors’ Qualifying Examination (SQE Part 1 or Part 2) or are willing to enrol to complete either of these qualifications part time during the training period (some funding may be available from Invesco); and

UK location: we require that applicants have the right to work in the UK until at least April 2027.

Although this position is contractually based in Henley-on-Thames, due to the importance of spending in-person time with team members and key internal business partners who are based in our London office, the anticipation is that you will work between the two offices as required.

How to Apply
Whilst a CV is important, we’d like to get to know you as more than just a name on a piece of paper. In addition to your CV, we’d like you to address a few questions that are important to us in a Word or PDF covering letter. Please limit your responses to no more than 250 words per question:

What interests you about a legal career within the investment management industry?

Introduce us to a topic you know about and tell us why it interests you.

Tell us about a particularly challenging situation you’ve faced (either personally or professionally), how you handled it and what you’ve learnt from this.

What has your work experience and/or education taught you so far about yourself and what you do/don’t enjoy?

What is your proudest achievement?

This is an opportunity for you to shine and to help us better understand more about you and your motivations. Unfortunately, we will not be able to consider your application without this submission.

Closing date for applications: Friday 20th September 2024
