Job summary

With professional leadership and management provided by the Lead IPC Nurse the post holder will work as a senior member of the Infection Prevention and Control Team to support the development and implementation of the Infection Prevention and Control annual plan, ensuring that the Trust is compliant with all local and national legislation relating to infection prevention and control, including the Health and Social Care Act 2008.

This will include the provision of education, advice and support on the surveillance, investigation and prevention and control of infection within Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust- with a specific focus on the aligned site and clinical division. The post holder will be flexible in the approach to their area of responsibility as well as providing cover for any team member specified and will act as a professional role model providing leadership and specialist advice.

The post holder will provide specialist nursing care and support and deputise for their line manager in the management of their clinical speciality. This will involve dealing with complex situations and having to take appropriate action in a variety of settings.

Main duties of the job

To act as a clinical expert within the Trust which will involve dissemination of specialist skills and knowledge to all staff groups, patients and others. To lead on education, surveillance and audit of infection prevention practices across the trust in collaboration with all divisions and the multi-disciplinary team. To manage a wide range of complex and sometimes conflicting priorities whilst at all times ensuring that the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of care delivery. To provide specialist advice to support and facilitate high quality individualised care to patients in collaboration with the multi-professional team in line with the local and national targets. Person Specification

Education/ Qualifications

Essential

Registered Nurse. Teaching and Assessing qualification or equivalent teaching experience. Post registration experience in a relevant area with experience of change management.

Desirable

Leadership qualification Has attained or is nearing completion of Degree In Infection Control Specialist Nursing

Experience

Essential

Significant post registration experience in Infection Control with experience of change management. Able to demonstrate highly developed knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control. Knowledge of research and audit including implementation of findings and review of outcomes.

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

Essential

Able to demonstrate highly developed specialist knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control Excellent level of English language demonstrated through effective written and verbal communication skills Advanced communication and interpersonal skills.
