London, United Kingdom Amazon Development Centre (London) Limited Full time
At Amazon, security is central to maintaining customer trust and delivering delightful customer experiences. Our organization is responsible for creating and maintaining a high bar for security across all of Amazon’s products and services. We offer talented security professionals the chance to accelerate their careers with opportunities to build experience in a wide variety of areas including cloud, devices, retail, entertainment, healthcare, operations, and physical stores.

What do you know about protecting sensitive data? What about fine-grained access control (FGAC) on Big Data? Or attribute-based access control (ABAC) and context based authorization?

In Security Products we build Access Policy Management systems to enable all Amazon teams to apply FGAC to their sensitive data. We build products that apply context based authorization to solve the problem of over-permissioning. We do this to protect Amazon customer, seller, vendor and employee information across from constantly changing abuse actor behaviors and patterns.

In our organization we have a rare opportunity to engage with multiple Amazon organizations and groups of experienced tech leaders to build products with impact at an impressive scale (hundreds of thousands of services).

As a manager, you will own the strategic roadmap, architecture and vision for a critical product; you will provide hands-on technical leadership to your peers; you'll be in constant contact with clients and stakeholders, negotiating approaches and deliveries.
Successful candidates for this position must have experience in growing and coaching a highly qualified team of software engineers. They must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, be self-driven and deliver high quality results in a fast-paced environment.

Key job responsibilities
- You are capable of managing a team where the problem, opportunity, and strategy may not be defined.
- You use your expertise and judgment to determine the right stakeholders to inform decisions.
- You are a team manager and may manage ICs in other locations. You also may manage one or two managers.
- You partner with your employees and leadership to define a vision. You use Amazon’s peculiar mechanisms (tenets, team charters) to communicate how your team makes decisions.
- You proactively lead recruitment efforts by attracting and hiring bar raising talent who bring needed skills and expertise to your org.
- You build a team that is able to deliver successfully without you. When you are involved, you use your judgment to question proposals and test assumptions in order to improve the outcome for customers, stakeholders, or your team. Your questions and/or observations give the team new insights into the problem.
- You establish workflows and service level agreements (SLAs).
- You make trade-offs: short vs. long-term needs.

A day in the life
- Hiring and developing an engineering team that is responsible for design, development, and operations.
- Managing and mentoring engineers, ensuring organizational health and career development within your organization.
- Participating in strategic planning to achieve technical and business objectives and define technical direction, managing resource allocation between multiple engineering teams.
- Leading design reviews for engineers, and driving feedback on architecture, design and operational issues.
- Working with Applied Scientists to deliver machine learning based solutions.
- Learning with us as we defining the future of Amazon’s Marketing and Merchandising.
