JobSummary:
Our corporateplan Building a Fairer Newham sets out how we will transform theBorough and as a Council provide consistently excellent residentexperience. At the heart of our ambition is a commitment to improvehow we communicate with residents from how we publish informationso it is easy to find and understand to ensuring people are awareof key services and increasing levels of participation in Newhamactivities and events. The Council s Marketing Directorate sets howwe present ourselves to residents and position ourselves withpartners winning the hearts and minds of local people with a clearNewham brand and narrative and motivating staff to become ambadorsfor the Council. It leads our communications content research andpartnershipswork.
The istantDirector of Communications is a senior leadership position holdingresponsibility for operational oversight of the Council scommunications functions and working with the Chief MarketingOffices and istant Director of Strategy Brand and Impact ensuringthat our communications activity reflects and supports Newham sbrand and strategic proactive engagement priorities. We wish tofundamentally reshape the public perception of Newham Councilhighlighting positive initiatives and innovative lifechangingdelivery while addressing negative issues promptly andcomprehensively. This role has a pivotal part to play in thisendeavour.
KeyDuties(Sample):
To provideprofessional expertise and advice to the Mayor Members the ChiefExecutive and senior officers on all areas of communications asrequired and to effectively support the overall strategy of theCouncil and the delivery of the CorporatePlan.
Develop andimplement the Council s communications strategy to actively deliverthe communication elements of the Council s integrated campaignsthrough leadership of the work programmes across all communicationsdisciplines (including media relations social media internalcommunications and production andcontent).
Delivereffective results that achieve the goals of the integratedcampaigns improve the reputation of the Council and ensuresresidents the Mayor all members staff and partners understand andfully engage with the Council sagenda.
Make certainresearch and evidence is used so the right message is delivered tothe right people through the most appropriatechannel.
Ensure throughall communications channels that residents clearly hear the messagethey are at the heart of everything wedo.
Embedconsistency creativity innovation and value for money across allcommunicationsactivity.
Ensureprovision of a 24/7 crisis and emergency communication service forthe Council andjournalists.
Participate inthe Councils emergency communication arrangements as an on callmember of the responseteam.
Ensure mediarelations is a mixed and balanced approach across daytoday newsmanagement and proactively influencing and shaping the news agendathrough campaigns features andprofiles.
Enhance theprofessionalism and credibility of the Council s onlinepresence.
Drive forwardimprovements on the web so content is user focused and the pagesdeliver good customerjourneys.
EssentialExperience andQualifications:
A successfultrack record of leading communication services within a politicallycomplexorganisation.
Directexperience of developing and delivering effective strategies in atleast three of the following disciplines: media relationsproduction and content social media or internalcommunications.
