Location: Salford

Contract Type: Full-time

Start Date: September

Are you eager to make a real difference in the life of a young person with autism? Do you have the empathy, patience, and creativity to support them in a classroom setting? Whether you’re pursuing a career in education, psychology, or a related field, this role offers an invaluable opportunity to gain hands-on experience while making a lasting impact.

About Autism:

Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how a person communicates, interacts with others, and experiences the world around them. Every individual with autism is unique, with their own strengths, challenges, and ways of learning. By providing one-on-one support, you will play a crucial role in helping a young person with autism navigate the school environment, develop social skills, and achieve their academic potential.

About the Role:

We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated 1:1 Support Assistant to workwithin in the classroom. Your role will be vital in helping this student feel included, understood, and supported throughout their school day. You’ll be part of a collaborative team that values the importance of creating an inclusive and nurturing learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Tailored Support: Work one-on-one with the student, adapting your approach to meet their unique needs and learning style. This might include breaking down tasks, using visual aids, or employing sensory strategies to enhance focus and comfort.
  • Promote Engagement: Encourage the student to participate in classroom activities, helping them to connect with the material and build confidence in their abilities.
  • Social and Emotional Guidance: Support the student in developing social skills, managing emotions, and building positive relationships with peers and staff.
  • Collaborative Integration: Partner with the classroom teacher to implement personalised strategies that promote the student’s inclusion and success within the broader classroom setting.
  • Monitor and Adapt: Observe the student’s progress, providing feedback and adjusting strategies as needed to ensure they are getting the most out of their educational experience.
  • Foster Independence: Empower the student to build self-confidence and autonomy, while providing the reassurance and support they need to thrive.
Why This Role Is Perfect for You:
  • Make a Difference: Directly impact the life of a young person with autism by helping them overcome challenges and achieve their potential.
  • Career Development: Gain valuable experience that is particularly beneficial for those considering careers in educational psychology, special education, or child development.
  • Understand Autism: Deepen your understanding of autism and learn practical strategies for supporting individuals with diverse needs.
  • Supportive Team: Join a collaborative environment where your contributions are valued, and continuous learning is encouraged.
  • Professional Growth: Benefit from opportunities for further training and development in the field of special educational needs.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Experience and Interest: Previous experience working with children or young people, particularly those with autism or special educational needs, is highly desirable. However, a strong interest in supporting individuals with autism is equally important.
  • Skills: Excellent communication, patience, and the ability to build rapport with young people are essential qualities.
  • Empathy and Understanding: A genuine interest in understanding autism and a compassionate approach to supporting those with the condition.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work closely with teachers, school staff, and parents to provide the best possible support for the student.
  • Adaptability and Creativity: Flexibility in responding to the student’s needs and the creativity to develop new ways to support their learning and development.
