Job summary

Touchstoneis a partner within Leeds Mental Wellbeing Service (LMWS). LMWS deliver aservice that is patient focused and evidence based for people with CommonMental Health Disorders. PURPOSE OF THE JOB

This is aqualified post within Leeds Mental Wellbeing Service. The post-holder will workwithin Leeds Mental Wellbeing service providing high volume low intensityinterventions. The post holder will provide a range of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) based self-managementinterventions to service to clients with mild to moderate common mental healthproblems.

ROLE DESCRIPTION

The post holderwill be responsible for the screening of referrals into the service via theonline platform, telephone and face to face appointments. The post holder willdeliver evidence based low intensity interventions including classes andgroups, computerised CBT and 1-1 guided self-help.

CLINICAL

1.Acceptreferrals via agreed protocols within the service.

2.Assessand supports people with a common mental health problem in the self-managementof their recovery.

3.Undertakespatient centred interviews which identifiesareas where the person wishes to see change and or recovery and makes anaccurate assessment of risk to self and others.

4.Makedecisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the departmentsreferral protocols, and refer unsuitable clients on to the relevant service orback to the referral agent as necessary or steps-up the persons treatment tohigh intensity.

5.Providea range of information and support for evidence based high volume low intensity psychological treatments. This may include guided self help computerised CBT, psycho-educational classes, information aboutpharmacological treatments. This work may be face to face, telephone or viaother media.

6.Educateand involve family members and others in treatment as necessary. .

7.Adhereto an agreed activity contract relating to the number of client contactsoffered, and clinical sessions carried out per week in order to minimisewaiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.

8.Attendmulti-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or clients in treatment,where appropriate.

9.Completeall requirements relating to data collection within the service.

10. Keep coherent records of all clinicalactivity in line with service protocols.

11. Work closely with other members of theteam ensuring appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are in place tomaintain a stepped care approach.

12. Assess and integrate issues surroundingwork and employment into the overall therapy process.

PROFESSIONAL

1.Ensurethe maintenance of standards of practice according to the employer and any regulatingand keep up to date on new recommendations/guidelines set by the department ofhealth ( NHS plan, National Service Framework, National Institute forClinical Excellence).

2.Ensurethat client confidentiality is protected at all times.

3.Beaware of and keep up to date with advances in the spheres of treatment forcommon mental health problems.

4.Ensureclear objectives are identified, discussed, and reviewed with senior therapistson a regular basis as part of continuing professional development.

5.Attendclinical/managerial supervision on a regular basis as agreed with Manager.

6.Participatein individual performance review and respond to agreed objectives.

7.Keepup to date all records in relation to continual professional development andensure personal development plan maintains up to date specialist knowledge oflatest theoretical and service delivery models/developments.

8.Attendrelevant conferences / workshops in line with identified professionalobjectives.

GENERAL

1.Toprovide information and advice about Touchstones services to managers, teams,and other people/agencies with an interest in the organisation's work.

2. Toundertake out of hours work as required by the service.

3. To be inducted, supervised, performancemanaged and appraised in line with the organisations performance managementpolicies and procedures.

4. To be responsible for personal learningand development where appropriate and undertake training, both mandatory andoptional, to increase knowledge, skills and awareness.

5.Tobe aware of and implement the general practices of Touchstones Health, Safetyand Security policies and keep Managersinformed about any serious and untoward incidents, safeguarding issues, health& safety concerns, financial issues, staff welfare.

14. To use the Community Information Systemto input and retrieve information appropriate to the care of individuals oncaseload and to develop a basic competency in the use of it to an agreedstandard ( the European Computer Driving License).

Person Specification

Knowledge

Essential

Demonstrate the ability to recognise the signs and symptoms of anxiety and depression and how these conditions may present themselves in Primary Care. Demonstrates a knowledge of the issues surrounding work and the impact it can have on mental health. Knowledge and ability to deliver High Volume Low Intensity evidenced based interventions both in a face to face and class-based settings, in line with IAPT prescribed protocols. Demonstrates an understanding for the need to use evidence based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post. Demonstrates a sound knowledge of IAPT services / outcome measures and the stepped care model.

Desirable

Knowledge of medication used in anxiety and depression and other common mental health problems. Knowledge of the issues surrounding work and the impact it can have on mental health

Skills

Essential

Excellent organisational skills to plan, prioritise and meet deadlines. Effectively work under pressure, work on own initiative without direct supervision. Effective case management and record keeping skills. Excellent communication skills, verbal and written. High level of ICT skills, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, PowerPoint). Ability to evaluate and put in place the effect of training. Proven ability to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients. Experience of carrying out risk assessments within scope of practice.

Experience

Essential

Evidence of working with people with common mental health problems with positive outcomes. Experience of working in a service where agreed targets are in place demonstrating clinical outcomes. Ability to manage own caseload and excellent time management skills. Demonstrates high standards in written communication. Evidence of engaging in effective case management and clinical supervision.

Desirable

Experience in other areas of mental health provision (in addition to IAPT). Experience of facilitating clinical supervision.
