Job summary
Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Service (CWPS) have Pathology Laboratories across three Hospital sites: Coventry Hospital, George Eliot Hospital and Warwick Hospital offering services to million patients across the region.
Departments within CWPS include Chemistry and Immunology, Haematology, Microbiology, Virology and Molecular Pathology, Histopathology, Pre-Analytics including Phlebotomy, and Mortuary services. With a dedicated workforce of over 500 staff, CWPS provide a range of tests across many different analysers and equipment, using state-of-the-art technology and specialist techniques.
The Cellular Pathology service consists of Histology and Mortuary services. The Histology laboratories are based at University Hospital, Coventry and Warwick Hospital sites. The Mortuary services are based at University Hospital, Rugby St Cross and Warwick Hospital sites.
There are several exciting projects happening within Cellular Pathology including various quality improvement projects in both Histology and Mortuary as well as a procurement exercise to modernise and innovate the Histology lab.
Main duties of the job
You will develop a culture in which staff are continuously improving the delivery of high-quality services through leadership, motivation, and systematic performance management across CWPS.
The Histopathology laboratories are all UKAS accredited and you will be leading on maintaining accreditation, creating a culture of continual improvement, addressing risks, and ensuring the use of the Quality Management System by all staff. The post holder will also be expected to work closely with stakeholders to maintain HTA accreditation.
You will be working within a team of Cellular Pathology Section Managers who each have a lead responsibility (IT, Performance, Site Lead and Training), as well as working with the other Department Quality Leads under the guide of the CWPS Quality Deputy and CWPS Quality and Governance Manager.
There will be training and guidance given to you to ensure that you are supported within your role. As there are specific training plans in place already, we will be willing to offer a Trainee Section Manager post to the right candidate who may not have an MSc or equivalent qualification. You must have a completed Specialist Portfolio in order to be shortlisted for the Trainee post. This is a 12-month fixed-term maternity cover secondment.
If you already have a relevant MSc or equivalent, then you will be offered the Band 7 role if successful after interview.
