An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 on our Neuroscience wards. This exciting opportunity offers the applicant to work within a committed team of staff who are passionate about caring for children with neurological conditions.

Bluebell Ward is a busy 12 bedded Neuroscience ward which provides emergency & planned paediatric neurology & neurosurgery. Sunflower Ward is an 8 bedded Rehabilitation Ward for paediatric patients following acute & acquired brain injury for the Southwest of England.

The individual requires a great deal of flexibility & vision to support the existing nursing team, as well as being able to link in with the wider multi-disciplinary team. You will have excellent communication & organisational skills & an ability to manage change enthusiastically & lead, manage & develop a team of nursing staff.

You should be able to demonstrate excellent inter-personal and communication skills & have the ability to create & maintain relationships with a variety of clinical and non-clinical staff. The ability to manage a busy workload & to prioritise, quickly find solutions & to focus on the important issues when decision making is essential.

You will be supported in leading a team of nursing staff to develop personally & professionally.

You will have evidence of your effective leadership, clinical credibility & have experience of working at a Band 5 level or above

Main duties of the job

To work according to the Nursing and Midwifery Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines to provide a high standard of patient care using a flexible patient centred care approach.

To provide an expert level of professional practice within nursing (speciality), and to be responsible for the management of a nursing team, providing advice, information and support. To actively support the sister/charge nurse, assisting in the safe, effective and efficient management of the ward/department and deputising in their absence.

To assume responsibility for undertaking tasks delegated by the sister/charge nurse including mentoring roles, auditing and clinical governance. To promote a ward/department environment that is conducive to learning, supporting and participating in the supervision/teaching of the more junior and/or new staff, both nursing and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
