SEN Teaching Assistant with Outreach

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant with outreach responsibilities to join our vibrant and inclusive SEN school in Plymouth. We cater to both primary and secondary-aged students with a wide range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), speech and language difficulties, physical disabilities, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges.
The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting pupils’ educational, emotional, and social development within the school and through community-based outreach activities.
Key Responsibilities:- Classroom Support: Assist teachers in delivering engaging, tailored lessons to students with special educational needs across different age groups, both primary and secondary.
- 1:1 and Group Support: Provide individualised and small group support to students, ensuring that all pupils have equal access to learning opportunities.
- Outreach: Engage with the local community to support students' transition from the classroom to real-world settings, facilitating activities outside of the school, such as work placements, trips, and social engagement programs.
- Communication: Work closely with families, external agencies, and other school staff to ensure a cohesive support network for each child’s educational and social development.
- Behaviour Management: Assist in managing student behaviour in line with the school’s policies, promoting a positive and safe learning environment.
- Emotional Support: Provide pastoral care to students, helping to manage any emotional or behavioural challenges they may face and promoting positive mental health and well-being.
- Adaptable Learning Approaches: Assist in the development of individualised learning plans (EHCPs), ensuring that each student’s unique needs are met with creative and effective strategies.
- Monitoring Progress: Track and report on the academic and personal progress of students, feeding back to teaching staff, SEN coordinators, and parents as needed.
- Experience: Previous experience working with children with SEN in either a classroom or outreach capacity is essential. Experience with both primary and secondary-aged students is desirable.
- Passion for SEN: A genuine interest in supporting young people with special educational needs and a proactive, flexible approach to meeting their diverse needs.
- Strong Communication Skills: Able to communicate effectively with students, staff, parents, and external agencies.
- Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver personalised learning support.
- Driving Licence: A full, clean UK driving licence is required as the role involves some off-site community outreach work.
- Qualifications: A Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent SEN training would be beneficial but is not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
