SEN Teaching Assistant with Outreach Responsibilities

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team at a specialist SEN school in Plymouth. As a key member of our dynamic team, you will play a vital role in supporting primary-aged students with a range of special educational needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), speech and language difficulties, learning disabilities, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
Key Responsibilities:- Classroom Support: Collaborate with class teachers to provide individualized support to students, adapting activities to meet their unique needs.
- 1:1 and Group Support: Offer focused 1:1 support and small group interventions to ensure all children can access the curriculum.
- Outreach: Participate in and lead outreach activities, including community visits and off-site learning experiences, to help children apply their learning and social skills in different settings.
- Collaborative Communication: Liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals to ensure holistic support for each student's academic and emotional development.
- Behaviour Management: Utilize positive behaviour support strategies to manage and encourage appropriate behaviour in line with the school's policy, creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
- Emotional and Pastoral Support: Provide emotional support for students, helping them develop resilience, self-regulation, and coping strategies for the challenges they face.
- Tailored Learning: Assist in the development of personalized learning plans (EHCPs), working alongside teachers and SEN coordinators to ensure each child's specific needs are met.
- Monitoring Progress: Observe and record children's academic and personal progress, providing feedback to teachers, SEN coordinators, and families to ensure continued development.
- Experience: Previous experience working with children with special educational needs, particularly in a primary school setting, is essential. Experience with outreach or community-based activities is advantageous.
- Passion for SEN: A caring, patient, and enthusiastic approach to supporting young children with a range of SEN and a willingness to adapt to their varying needs.
- Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to work effectively with pupils, teachers, parents, and external agencies.
- Team Player: Ability to collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver comprehensive and individualized support for students.
- Driving Licence: A full, clean UK driving licence is required, as the role will involve some community outreach activities.
- Qualifications: A Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or equivalent SEN training, is desirable but not essential.
