Overview: We are seeking a compassionate and responsible SEN Outreach Driver to provide safe and reliable transport for primary-aged children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) across Plymouth. In this rewarding role, you will be a key part of our team, supporting the daily outreach and transport services for children who require additional help with mobility or access to educational resources. If you are patient, understanding, and enjoy making a difference in the lives of young children, this is an ideal role for you.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safe Transport: Provide a safe and comfortable journey for children with special needs to and from educational or therapy sessions, home visits, and community activities across Plymouth.
- Assisting Children: Offer support in helping children get in and out of the vehicle, securing seatbelts and assistive devices such as wheelchairs or mobility aids.
- Effective Communication: Liaise with schools, parents, carers, and other support staff to ensure smooth coordination and the well-being of the children during transportation.
- Supportive Environment: Build positive and trusting relationships with the children, ensuring their comfort and emotional well-being during transit.
- Maintain Records: Accurately log daily routes, mileage, and any incidents or concerns that may arise during transport.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Ensure the assigned vehicle is well-maintained, clean, and compliant with safety regulations, performing basic checks such as oil, fuel, and tyre pressure as needed.
- Adaptability: Be flexible in responding to changing transport needs, such as varying start times, different locations, or last-minute requests.
Requirements:
- Full UK Driving Licence: Clean, valid, and eligible for driving in the UK. Experience driving in a professional capacity is preferred.
- Experience with SEN: Previous experience working with children with SEN (in a school, care, or transport setting) is highly desirable.
- Patience and Empathy: A calm, patient approach to working with children, especially those with complex physical, emotional, or sensory needs.
- Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with children, families, and school staff, adapting your communication style as needed.
- Enhanced DBS Check: Must be willing to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
Desirable Skills:
- Training in First Aid or Safeguarding.
- Experience with specialised vehicles or transport for those with mobility challenges.
- Knowledge of SEN conditions such as Autism, ADHD, or learning disabilities.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
