Job summary
Are you passionate about creating a sustainable and environmentally conscious healthcare system? Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is actively seeking an innovative and dedicated professional to join us as the Director of Environment and Estates, leading the charge in environmental sustainability and promoting the well-being of our communities.
As the Director of Environment and Estates, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing sustainable practices across our health board. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, you will lead initiatives that reduce our environmental impact, promote green practices, and contribute to the overall health and well-being of our communities.
The portfolio for this role comprises:
Capital Estates Facilities and Support Services ( Waste management, Non-emergency patient transport, Courier Services) Security Health and Safety Environmental Sustainability/Climate Change
Main duties of the job
Particular key responsibilities will be to:
Hold corporate responsibility, accountable to the Board, for the strategic direction, corporate policymaking, service development and delivery of services within the respective areas of delivery, ensuring that plans are aligned to the overall strategic aims of the Health Board. Provide knowledgeable, professional leadership for the Climate Change, Decarbonisation and Biodiversity agenda. Lead the formulation and deployment of strategy, with others across the Health Board and in association with experts in the field, to ensure that the Health Board has an ambitious strategic plan with clear deliverables. Establish an organisation wide approach to Agile Working, engaging colleagues across the Health Board to develop a strategic approach to Agile Working. Work closely with Trade Union partners in the development and deployment of the approachLead the development and deployment of an effective, comprehensive Facilities and Support Services function.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) is the largest health organisation in Wales, with a budget of £ billion and a workforce of over 21,000 staff. The Health Board provides primary, community, mental health and acute hospital services for the population of North Wales.
BCUHB provides a full range of primary, community, mental health, acute and specialist hospital services across 3 acute hospitals, 22 community hospitals and a network of health centres, clinics, community health team bases and mental health units. BCUHB also coordinates or provides the work of GP practices and the NHS services provided by dental and orthodontic practices, as well as optometry practices, opticians and pharmacies in North Wales.
The Health Board is an integrated health system which strives to ensure excellent compassionate care is delivered in partnership with the public and other statutory and third sector organisations. BCUHB has a developed relationship with the universities in North Wales and with the University of Bangor is seeking medical school status and operates in a research-rich learning culture.

Qualifications
Essential
Educated to Master's degree level or equivalent Management qualification or equivalent senior level experience. Experience of working and contributing at Board level. Extensive expertise and understanding of: > Business Planning > Budget Setting > Commissioning processes > Performance & Change Management > People Management > Quality improvem In depth understanding of the challenges facing the health service in Wales and the impact of working in a rural setting. Understanding of the NHS modernisation agenda and using this knowledge to develop and implement strategy and service.
Experience
Essential
Experience of interpreting high-level policy into service strategies. Experience of managing significant resources and budgets and a proven record of accomplishment in delivering financial sustainability and value for mone Experience of multi-agency strategic planning and successful record of accomplishment in strategic management at Board level in a complex organisation.
Aptitude and Abilities

Ability to develop and implement innovative solutions. High-level analytical skills and ability to draw conclusions from combinations of qualitative and quantitative information sources and present in a concise manner. Strong planning skills, able to plan effectively against deadlines in order to produce timely outputs and deliverables. Ability to deal with contentious data and information, able to weigh up conflicting perspectives and make sound judgements. Excellent strategic and critical thinking skills. Ability to perform and deliver under pressure. Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively using excellent communication skills, including strong report writing and presentation skills.
