Century Engineering is a dynamic Australian engineering solutions provider, specialising in special purpose equipment and components for the Mining, Defence, Power, and Water industries.

Due to ongoing development and success in key industry sectors, Century Group is currently seeking a talented and passionate Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our fast-paced and challenging engineering business at our Edinburgh North, SA site.

As an integral part of the multi-disciplinary Engineering Services team, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will provide technical leadership to the entire team in mechanical/ structural engineering and design for all projects or products in Defence, Mining, Power and Water industry. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Technical Leadership: 

  • Provide technical leadership in shaping the direction of our Mechanical plant or products and ensuring they maintain a competitive edge in the market.
  • Provide subject matter expertise, focus and leadership in the mechanical discipline, contributing actively to cross-functional, multi-disciplinary engineering or management initiatives, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Develop and maintain mutually beneficial collaborative relationships with other subject matter experts, peers in industry and stay up to date with emerging design and engineering trends, tools, and technologies to continuously improve and innovate product design or engineering practices.
  • Mentor and coach junior mechanical engineers in the team, and in the context of an organisation wide initiatives, in the interest of contributing to their professional and technical skills development.

Product Design and Development: 

  • Oversea design activities in creating high-quality, functional, user-centric and fit for purpose product designs, ensuring design solutions are robust, efficient and align with guidelines, standards and industry practices.
  • Lead and participate actively in all mechanical engineering activities from client interface, concept design, to detailed structural engineering, fabrication design and drafting. 
  • Provide technical support, design review and sign off in all stages of a product cycle from quotation, cost estimation to detailed design, fabrication and implementation. 
  • Provide expert technical advice to workshop fabrication processes and create technical concepts in the interest of developing new technology, capability or functionality.

Project Engineering and Support: 

  • Provide Mechanical Engineering expert advice for the design and delivery of multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Lead and participate in cross-disciplinary engineering and design activities across entire project life-cycle, including tender proposal, front end engineering, concept design, detailed design, construction, commissioning, testing and after sale technical support activities. 
  • Provide technical review and design sign-off on mechanical deliverables, including design reports and mechanical drawings of project design. 
  • Interface with client, and collaborate with other disciplinary engineers, project managers to ensure design and engineering deliverables are completed on time and within budget.

Quality Assurance: 

  • Implement and maintain rigorous quality control and testing processes to ensure product reliability and performance. 
  • Ensure thorough documentation of design and engineering processes, decisions, and outcomes to facilitate knowledge sharing and future reference.
  • Employ engineering best practice, ensuring compliance to all relevant technical standards, guidelines and specifications for all product design and project engineering activities. 

Legal, Compliance and Safety:

  • Comply with the Work Health and Safety Act 2012
  • Provide expert advice to Century Management regarding any legal exposure resulting from engineering activities.

ABOUT YOU

The desired applicant may have:

  • Chartered Professional Engineer in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant experiences. 
  • Proven experience in mechanical design, with a track record of successful steelwork design and mechanical product development.
