This is a new post as part of a wider pilot project in collaboration with the NHS Race & Health Observatory, Macmillan Cancer Support and Roche with the aim of increasing representation of ethnic minority women in breast cancer clinical trials
The role can be taken up as secondment where possible.
Main duties of the job
a. Supporting patients with their diagnosis of breast cancerb. Introducing the concept of clinical research in generalc. Signposting patients to educational materials on clinical trials in general and addressing any queriesd. Navigating patients to breast cancer trials potentially suitable for theme. Supporting patients commencing/continuing on breast cancer clinical trials, including aiding with any barriers ( logistical, financial) as neededf. Working closely with the academic team completing the independent evaluation of the projectg. To be a figurehead for the project and be willing to present and talk to the media.

Minimum five years post registration Experience in a cancer-related area Research and clinical trials experience Good working knowledge of Breast Cancer and the treatment pathway which patients follow
Desirable
Experience of working with under-represented patient populations
Skills
Essential
Advanced Communication Skills course Ability to work alone and under pressure Ability to manage complex situations both clinically and in terms of administration
Desirable
Understanding of clinical trial principles in general Presentation Skills (often have to present at MDT) Experience in presenting to small and large forums. Prior exposure to dealing and talking to the media.

Proven clinical skills & sound knowledge base in Breast Oncology Knowledge of cancer patient experience 1st Level Breast Cancer Course
Desirable
Physical Assessment Course Nurse Prescribing Course Good Clinical Practice certificate (specific to clinical trials)- to be completed ASAP once in post if not already held (to be supported by Barts)
