Job summary

The appointee will join a team of clinicians, academics and supporting professionals working in Respiratory Medicine: Prof Alyn Morice (Professor of Respiratory Medicine and Head of Department), Prof Simon Hart (Professor of Respiratory Medicine), Prof Michael Crooks (Professor of Respiratory Medicine); Dr Laura Sadofsky (Senior Lecturer in respiratory pharmacology); Mr Wayne Sheedy (Research Group Manager); Caroline Wright (Clinical Trials Manager); 3 Clinical Trials staff; 3 PhD students; NHS consultants in Respiratory Medicine (Drs S Faruqi (clinical lead), J Kastelik, G Anderson, S Naureen, S Pathmanathan, E Pinder, D Shiferaw, A Prakash, K Tariq, M Abeer, U Kamdar). There are 7 registrars in respiratory medicine, 2 CMT trainees, 2 GPVTS trainees, 1 academic FY2 trainee, 6 FY1 trainees, and 8 respiratory nurse specialists.

This post will provide exposure to both clinical and applied health research and will be of interest to those considering a career in respiratory medicine with an interest in airways diseases. The post is funded as part of a joint working project between Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and AstraZeneca UK.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will work within a multidisciplinary team of clinicians and academics within the HUTH asthma service and Respiratory Research Group. The role will include undertaking out-patient clinics (up to 3-clinics per week) under the supervision of consultant colleagues, attending the severe asthma MDT, playing an important role in developing digitally enabled clinical pathways, delivering education to multidisciplinary audiences, evaluating the impact of the VALIDATE project, and supporting conduct of clinical trials. Clinical activities will take place at both Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital and the appointee will therefore need to be able to travel between these hospitals during the course of their work. There will be additional opportunities to gain experience undertaking applied health research in respiratory medicine. The appointee may have the option of participating in the medical on-call rota at a level appropriate to their stage of training (subject to negotiation).
