Apprentice Gallops Groundsperson

Godolphin are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and hardworking Apprentice Gallops Groundsperson to join our small team based at Godolphin Stables, Newmarket.  The successful candidate will be supported through their studies of the Level 2 Sports Turf Operative Apprenticeship which will take approximately 18 months to complete.

Reporting to the Gallops’ Manager, you will be tasked with preparing and maintaining the eight and five furlong grass gallops, canter down, warm up and warm down rings. This will involve grass cutting, strimming, fertiliser spreading, general gallop repairs and over seeding. In time, you will have the opportunity to operate teleporters, tractors and mini diggers and will be responsible for the low-level upkeep and servicing of sports turf plant and equipment.

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, with a natural passion for sports turf management and working outdoors. Completion of the apprenticeship can lead to having a successful career either within Godolphin or elsewhere within the industry. Previous apprentices at Godolphin have been offered permanent positions, including progression into supervisory roles within a few years of completing their apprenticeship.

Math’s and English GCSE at a minimum of a grade 2 (E) or above is desirable, as is a clean driving licence.
