Job summary

TheCongenital Cardiac Service at Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust is based at theLeeds General Infirmary. Both the childrens and adult services are located atthis site, as well as all necessary supporting services. The Department is asupra-regional service, serving a population of million in the Yorkshireand North Trent region. The annual workload of the department is recoveringafter the pandemic and aiming at 500 operations comprising neonates, infants,children, and adults with congenital heart disease. This post supports theConsultant Congenital Cardiac Surgeons and works very closely with thePaediatric and Adult Congenital Cardiologists, the Intensive care units, andthe wider multidisciplinary team

Main duties of the job

The post holder will assist the ConsultantSurgeons in the operating theatre for 2-3 days per week and supports thecardiac ICUs and wards. They will attend the weekly multidisciplinary meetingand departmental audit meetings and attend the outpatient clinic. The postholder will participate in the 1:5 non-resident on call Rota for the CongenitalCardiac Surgery Service.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Thepost holder will assist the Consultant Surgeons in the operating theatre for2-3 days per week and supports the cardiac ICUs and wards. They will attend theweekly multidisciplinary meeting and departmental audit meetings and attend theoutpatient clinic. The post holder will participate in the 1:5 non-resident oncall rota for the Congenital Cardiac Surgery Service.

The seniority of the post holder will be at Registrar level in theoperating theatre, ICU and wards and outpatientsand the administrative duties associated with posts do not have educational approval from the Yorkshire andHumber Deanery. However, the Doctor will have the opportunity to attend andcontribute to the teaching programmes within the department. He/ She will beexpected to take an active part in the audit programme. The Clinical Directorwill agree an appropriate programme of CPD and Appraisal with the post holder.Research is encouraged.

Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practise from, the GMC at intended start date Evidence of achievement of ST3 competences in congenital cardiac surgery or equivalent at time of application. Training in adult cardiac surgery and preferably has experience in congenital cardiac surgery. Eligibility to work in the UK. Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent (as required to complete Foundation competences) by intended start date Is up to date and fit to practise safely and is aware of own training needs.

All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues demonstrated by one of the following: Applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English; or Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) results showing a score of at least in each domain (speaking, listening, reading, writing),with an overall score of at least , to be achieved in a single sitting and within 24 months of the time of application If applicants believe they have adequate communication skills, but do not have evidence in one of the above forms, they must provide alternative supporting evidence of language skills
