An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) service nursing and allied healthcare professional team within the Department of Respiratory Medicine at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. The Exeter ILD Service provides a regional service covering the South West Peninsular (Devon, Cornwall and parts of Somerset and Dorset).

The ILD Assistant Practitioner is an exciting new development within the ILD Team. Your key role will be to provide support and education for patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD) and their families/ carers. The post will enable you to work within the existing ILD service supporting patients on the telephone, in clinic and at home and arranging support group meetings. You will ensure the patient and their carers understand the diagnosis pathway and planning and delivery of patient care to address their needs and ensure timely investigations, diagnosis and treatment. Much of the patient support will enable patients to maintain their quality of life, manage side effects from medication, link them up with support services and groups and ensuring they are safe through blood monitoring and regular contact. You will be involved in home visits supporting the work of our dietitian, occupational therapist and physiotherapist. Once you have the knowledge and experience there will be the opportunity to assist with or run your own clinics, these will include telephone clinics, ambulatory oxygen and pulmonary rehabilitation assessments.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic to learn about ILD with some knowledge of respiratory conditions and how they impact on the lives of patients and their loved ones. You will need to show in your job application how you meet the requirements of the person specification.

The South West Peninsular ILD service at the RDE are a dynamic team who are keen to provide opportunities for staff development in their speciality and respiratory medicine. You will be supported by the existing team which includes ILD consultant, ILD Nurses, ILD admin team, pharmacist, physiotherapist, dietitian and occupational therapist. Key within this team is your opportunity to contribute to advancement and quality improvement of the ILD service.
